<p id=”par-1_36″><a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/wendy-williams/”>Wendy Williams</a> went from being what some have <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/wendy-williams-found-called-shock-jock-distasteful.html/”>called a shock jock</a> to having her own talk show. But the transition from radio to TV had an interesting affect on her lifestyle that Williams didn’t expect.</p>

<p id=”par-2_76″>Williams achieved a new type of fame after getting her own TV show. Her long career in radio and growing popularity led to the right people offering Williams a broader platform.<br><br>“It was just a matter of somebody wanting to do something with me and take it to the next level. Thank God for the Internet and for a solid career of over 20 years, because that’s how I got my talk show,” she once told <a href=”https://www.forbes.com/sites/danschawbel/2013/03/12/wendy-williams-from-syndicated-radio-host-to-national-tv-star/”>Forbes</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-3_115″>Williams lived up to her potential with <em>The Wendy Williams Show</em>. The show began in 2008, and although Williams <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/wendy-williams-particular-number-mind-thinking-end-show.html/”>had a particular number in mind</a> for the show to end, it lasted for 13 seasons. It most likely would’ve lasted even longer if it wasn’t for Williams battling her personal issues. But at the height of her career, she experienced a slight change when it came to her home life. At the time, Williams was living with her ex-husband and former manager Kevin Hunter and their son Kevin Hunter Jr. When she was still doing radio, Williams didn’t mind seeking outside help to care for her family. But that changed after <em>The Wendy Williams Show</em>.</p>

<p id=”par-4_85″>“We try to keep it as normal as possible,” Williams once told <a href=”https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/a22226685/wendy-williams-interview-hunter-foundation-drugs-racism/”>Cosmopolitan</a> about her typical day-to-day routine. “I burn the rice. People say, “Well, Wendy, why don’t you have somebody make the rice?” No! I’ve never had a bunch of people around. I mean, alright, when [my son] Kevin was younger, we did have somebody living with us and somebody would also come during the day, but the second I got this talk show, I was like, everybody out, out, out. I was scared.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_22″>Because of her new outlook, she admitted that the talk show made her as private and creepy as she used to be.</p>
<p id=”par-6_48″>“We don’t need people pilfering through our sneakers and jewelry and stuff, spying on us, trying to influence our son. If anything, the talk show has really made me return to the creep that I really am. Very private, very mysterious. I like it that way,” she said.</p>

But she was confident she was a much different host than others like Oprah, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/inside-wendy-williams-feud-with-oprah-winfrey.html/”>who she feuded with in the past</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-8_128″>“I’m not Ellen or Oprah. I am a woman of a certain style and flair,” she once said in an interview with <a href=”https://www.channelguidemag.com/tv-news/2009/07/23/radio-diva-wendy-williams-adds-talk-show-host-to-her-resume/”>Channel Guide</a>. “Ellen and Oprah can interview Demi Moore but I can interview Demi and I will find something fresh and from a new perspective. We’re in town with Regis and Kelly and David Letterman and I love them all, but I’m different and I always have been different. I’m bringing that to TV. I laugh at myself, I laugh with myself and I guess Ellen and Oprah do that also except I probably do it more often and my laugh might be harder. It comes from my size 11 feet all the way out of my gaping mouth with my big white teeth. I laugh.”</p>
<p id=”par-9_17″>Additionally, Williams thought she gave stronger and more personal advice to her fans than her contemporaries did.</p>
<p id=”par-10_42″>“Oprah does advice in an indirect way with her various guests. Me, I’ve built up enough of a following with my radio career that women and men, and children, believe it or not, have been coming to me for advice,” she said.</p>
<p id=”par-11_79″>“A girl will call, ‘Miss Wendy, how do I talk to my mom about sex?’ And I’ll give advice to her about that. Or the 22-year-old scared to graduate from college and face life will call me up about that. And my peer group, the 30-and 40-year-old women, call me up about contraception, or ‘I don’t want to have kids and he wants to have kids’, or ‘my best friend and I don’t get along any more,’” she added.</p>
