<p id=”par-1_70″>Former talk show and radio host <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/wendy-williams/”>Wendy Williams</a> hasn’t had it easy over the last few years. She previously hosted <em>The Wendy Williams Show</em> but left in 2022 after her mental and physical health began to decline. However, Williams, who was <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/wendy-williams-guardianship-now-investigation-new-york.html/”>placed under financial guardianship</a> in 2022 and later moved to an assisted living facility, is now saying that she has perfect cognitive function and does not need a guardian.</p>
<p id=”par-2_26″>Williams recently spoke out about what the conditions are like in her assisted living facility, and while it’s certainly an upscale place, she still feels trapped.</p>

<p id=”par-3_64″>Back in 2024, Williams was moved into an assisted living facility on New York’s Upper East Side. The facility, called Coterie, is extremely high end, with apartments starting at $13,400 per month according to its website. While Williams might be living in a swanky place, she still feels totally trapped. A <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/free-wendy-wendy-williams-controversial-guardianship.html/”>“Free Wendy” movement</a> has even started in an effort to get her released.</p>
<p id=”par-4_68″>Williams recently went to the hospital for cognitive tests, where she was found to be in perfectly good mental health. Afterward, she spoke to Rosanna Scotto of <em>Good Day New York</em> and gave some insight into what it’s like living on the facility’s fifth floor, which is also known as the memory unit. (Williams was previously diagnosed with dementia, but she has argued the diagnosis since day one).</p>
<p id=”par-5_22″>“As far as me being able to go outside … I’m not allowed,” Wendy says. “I have to stay in this building.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_63″>Williams continued, “In order to go to the gym, which is on the third floor, I have to be permitted.” She added that an employee has to physically walk with her to the gym, then keep an eye on her while she’s in there. She also said everything has to be approved by her “guardian person” in terms of cost for the facility.</p>

<p id=”par-7_40″>Williams has said that her biggest priority right now is getting out of the guardianship. She specifically requested independent cognitive tests from a New York City hospital, which she received in early March (and passed “with flying colors,” she says).</p>
<p id=”par-8_55″>Williams also told Scotto that she <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/wendy-williams-plans-going-back-work-guardianship-options.html/”>plans on “going back to work”</a> once the guardianship ends, and that she won’t be drinking again, will have a financial advisor, and has “options” in terms of what kind of work she wants to return to. For now, Williams has many friends and family members rallying around her.</p>
