‘The Voice’: Adam Levine’s Hairstyle Transformation: From Buzzcuts to Bleach

Adam Levine’s time as a coach on The Voice has been just as notable for his bold hairstyle choices as for his musical and coaching expertise. Since 2011, the Maroon 5 frontman has experimented with it all—retro vibes, bleached buzz cuts, shaved heads, and styles that range from iconic to eyebrow-raising. Let’s take a journey through almost every hairstyle Levine has rocked during his Voice years.

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-1″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/blake-shelton-adam-levine-christina-aguliera-cee-lo-green.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguliera, and Cee Lo Green during ‘The Voice’s’ debut season” class=”wp-image-3767914″>
Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green during ‘The Voice’s’ debut season | Michael Tran/Getty Images

Adam Levine showed off a trendy faux hawk in 2011 at a press conference announcing The Voice‘s start in 2011. The Maroon 5 frontman stood alongside Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green as the show’s first coaches met the press.

Levine’s hairstyle featured short, tapered sides with a slightly longer, spiked center section. It was a look that matched his confident and laid-back persona as the lead singer of Maroon 5 and one of the show’s newly minted coach on the show.

The faux hawk quickly became one of his signature styles. It was a hairstyle he would rock for several seasons thereafter.

Longer But Edgy

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-2″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/adam-levine-2014.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Adam Levine photographed on the set of ‘The Voice’ in 2014″ class=”wp-image-3767918″>
Adam Levine photographed on the set of ‘The Voice’ in 2014 | Trae Patton/NBC Universal/Getty Images

After a few seasons of championing the faux hawk, Adam Levine decided to change things up in 2014. He maintained the shaved sides but let the top grow out longer, creating a modern undercut look.

This edgy style allowed Levine versatility, whether or not he was looking for a more polished look or a messy, tousled vibe. This fresh update evolved his position as The Voice‘s leading male style-setter.

In 2015, Adam Levine added facial hair to his personal style. He grew his hair out longer than in previous seasons, and a beard and moustache added a casual edge to Levine’s overall look.

This rugged, laid-back persona gave the Maroon 5 frontman an effortlessly cool vibe, contrasting sharply with his more polished styles from previous years. It perfectly aligned with Levine’s rockstar persona.

Bleached Blonde Boss

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-4″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/2016-adam-levine-bleached-hair.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Adam Levine rocks bleached blonde hair on ‘The Voice’ 2016″ class=”wp-image-3767933″>
Adam Levine rocks bleached blonde hair on ‘The Voice’ 2016 | Trae Patton/NBC/Getty Images

Just one year later, in 2016, Adam Levine turned heads with a brand new bleached blonde look. It became one of his most memorable and talked-about transformations.

The drastic change from his natural darker hair made Levine stand out as a male style trendsetter. Paired with his darker beard, this shift was a definite look.

By the time 2018 rolled around, Adam Levine had shaved off his blonde locks and returned to his natural hue. He also debuted a shorter hairstyle than ever before, a buzzed look not only for his hair, but his face as well.

This buzz cut marked a departure from his more experimental looks. It showcased a mature, no-nonsense vibe that suited his image as a seasoned coach on The Voice and a musician and songwriter for Maroon 5.
