<p id=”par-1_32″>Royal fans remember when they heard the bombshell news in 2020 that <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/prince-harry-was-able-to-marry-meghan-markle-because-she-didnt-do-this-1-thing-in-her-past.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Prince Harry and Meghan Markle</a> were stepping down as working members of the royal family and moving to America. </p>
<p id=”par-2_54″>In an <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/B7EaGS_Jpb9/?hl=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram</a> post, the couple said, “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the royal family and work to become financially independent.”</p>

<p id=”par-3_44″>Several members of the royal family were taken aback by the announcement, including <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-british-monarch-dies-96.html/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Queen Elizabeth</a> who held a historic Sandringham Summit in which she told the Duke of Sussex that he and Meghan could not have the “half-in, half-out” deal they wanted. </p>
<p id=”par-4_36″>While the queen and others began to sort out all the details pertaining to Sussexes’ future, someone who reportedly could never come to terms with it and was completely “horrified” was Harry’s grandfather, Prince Philip. </p>
<p id=”par-5_53″>Royal author Andrew Morton elaborated on that a bit in the documentary titled <em>Megxit: Inside the Sandringham Summit</em> and said that “Prince Philip is someone who doesn’t take fools gladly, and he was horrified that they had come to a situation where the royal family were deciding whether to split up or not.”</p>

<p id=”par-6_44″>Also speaking about the Sandringham meeting, royal expert Emily Andrews, claimed: “Philip was so angry that he refused to even be there. I was told that he just couldn’t bring himself to see his grandson, he thought it was a huge dereliction of duty.”</p>
<p id=”par-7_23″>Prince Philip died on April 9, 2021, at the age of 99. Six days before what would have been his 100th birthday. </p>
