The Las Vegas event hosted the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper and several other big names in hip-hop. Despite appearances by Playboi Carti and Offset, Snoop’s interview during the live recording of Drink Champs provided the most unfiltered access to the convention’s celebrity guests.

ComplexCon 2024 went all out for guests in Las Vegas this weekend. Hosted by Complex, the annual festival blends art, music, food, and streetwear into one immersive event. Attendees got to engage with influencers, artists, and designers via brand releases, live performances, and panel discussions. This year, Complex landed big-time names, like Travis Scott and Metro Boomin, and brands, including Nike and Adidas.

On Sunday, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg participated in a live recording of the award-winning podcast Drink Champs. The West Coast rap icons chatted with hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN about Stevie Wonder and the Super Bowl. The latter subject caught the attention of fans, who noticed Snoop’s subtle call-out of Lil Wayne.

N.O.R.E. cited Snoop Dogg’s performance at Super Bowl LVI with Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar. The rapper and Drink Champs co-host explained, via Complex Music on <a href=”https://twitter.com/ComplexMusic/status/1857944699329294460″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>X, “Since y’all performed at the Super Bowl and that Super Bowl happened to be in Los Angeles, it’s this big thing that’s going on right now that everyone thinks that wherever the Super Bowl takes place, that artists that’s there is supposed to.”

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-2″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Dr-Dre-Snoop-Dogg-ComplexCon-2024.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg film a live episode of the podcast ‘Drink Champs'” class=”wp-image-3742647″>
Rappers Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg record ‘Drink Champs’ in Las Vegas, Nevada | Ethan Miller/Getty Images

N.O.R.E. was likely referencing Lil Wayne’s outspoken dissatisfaction with his lack of involvement in Super Bowl LVI. In September, the “Lollipop” rapper shared in a video on <a href=”https://twitter.com/ComplexMusic/status/1834563116203458616″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>X, “I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown and for just automatically mentally putting myself in that position like somebody told me that was my position. So I blame myself for that.”

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-3″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Kendrick-Lamar-Super-Bowl.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Rapper Kendrick Lamar walks on the field before the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show” class=”wp-image-3742642″>
Kendrick Lamar before the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show on February 13, 2022 | Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Roc Nation

Perhaps Lil Wayne assumed the Super Bowl LIX decision-makers would include him. The “Mrs. Officer” rapper already confirmed plans to join the NFL Network as a weekly host of NFL Gameday. Instead, the honor went to Kendrick Lamar. He will headline the championship’s halftime performance on February 9, 2025, in New Orleans. Snoop Dogg clarified his stance on the issue. “What we need to think about is that before Jay-Z got control of the Super Bowl wasn’t no n****s performing,” he stated.

Snoop Dogg defends Lil Wayne’s exclusion from Super Bowl LIX

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-4″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Drink-Champs-Dr-Dre-Snoop-Dogg.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg film a live episode of the podcast ‘Drink Champs'” class=”wp-image-3742645″>
Rappers Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at the Las Vegas Convention Center on November 16, 2024 | Ethan Miller/Getty Images

The “Sexual Eruption” rapper continued, “[Jay-Z is] creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform. If you are a good artist and you are a great artist, your time will come. I was never crying about it or mad about it when Dr. Dre called me and asked me to get his back. I was there for him. But I didn’t feel like I was supposed to be there; I was in demand to be there.”

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-5″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/Jay-Z-Super-Bowl.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=”Rumi Carter, Jay-Z, and Blue Ivy Carter walk on the sideline of Super Bowl LVIII” class=”wp-image-3742643″>
Juan ‘OG’ Perez, Rumi Carter, Jay-Z, and Blue Ivy Carter at Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 | Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Roc Nation

Snoop continued, “This is a big event. People looking at everything when they picked the person to perform. You should just be honored that hip-hop is being able to be seen on that platform for all of us and not hate on the next.” The Long Beach, California, native’s take on the matter implies that everyone should wait for their turn. Jay-Z, a strategic businessman, certainly wouldn’t set up the hip-hop community for failure, and Lil Wayne should trust that.
