Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Mother Revealed 1 Decision He Made That ‘Disappointed’ Her

Sean “Diddy” Combs and his mother, Janice Combs, have a close relationship. After his father died, Janice raised him as a single mother. She spoke about her pride in his success and she has defended him amid recent allegations against him. Still, she said she did not support one of his decisions. She shared what he did to make her feel disappointed in him.

Janice said that her son developed a strong work ethic at a young age.

“He came home one day and told me he wanted to start a paper route,’’ she told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2002/09/09/sean-combs-puff-daddy-p-diddy-i-am-fashion” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The New Yorker in 2002. “That is how he started. He always wanted to work and make his money. We had a Cadillac car and a house, and he liked life like that.”

Diddy attended Howard University, which his mother referred to as “the Black Harvard.” She felt proud of his enrollment at the school, but he began to set his sights elsewhere. Before long, Diddy dropped out to work for Andre Harrell at Uptown Records. His mother, who was a teacher, did not approve.

“I really was so disappointed about that,’’ Janice said. “A person works day and night just to educate a kid, and to be able to have a roof over your head and a school uniform. He was a fine student, and when he left college it was hard for me.’’

He spoke about his relationship with his mother

Diddy felt grateful to his mother for all she did for him while he was growing up.

“[My mom] loves me so much, and she’s so proud of me,” he said in a 2006 interview with <a href=”https://www.oprah.com/index.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Oprah Winfrey, adding, “She almost killed herself to make sure I went to private schools, to expose me to travel. She made sure I never looked down on other people. She also ignited a fire in me.”

He also appreciated the way she stuck by his side during his 2001 trial following a nightclub shooting.

“She wanted me to be bigger than my circumstances,” he said. “During the trial, she walked by me every step of the way.”

What has Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ mother said about the allegations against him?

Just as Janice supported her son in 2001, she is supporting him amid the flurry of recent allegations against him. Diddy is currently in jail on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. In a statement, Janice said she feels “devastated and profoundly saddened” by the accusations (via the <a href=”https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c206z9ggp9yo” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>BBC).

“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” she wrote.

While she added that she doesn’t think Diddy is “perfect,” she strongly believes he is “not the monster they have painted him to be.”

“My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things, such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance showed otherwise,” she said. “Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed. This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt.”
