<p id=”par-1_64″>Noel Gallagher joined Oasis after his brother, Liam, and immediately established himself as the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/music/”>band’s</a> songwriter. He had long been writing songs and needed a group to help him perform them. Noel wrote many hits for the band, but he grew to <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/noel-gallagher-hates-1-oasis-song-wrote-much-left-off-singles-album.html/”>regret some of the writing</a> in Oasis’ first single. He shared why he hated the way people continually brought up one line.</p>

<p id=”par-2_52″>In April 1994, Oasis released <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/george-harrison-inspired-oasis-supersonic.html/”>their debut single, “Supersonic.”</a> The song reached No. 31 on the U.K. singles chart and kicked off the band’s rapid rise to success. By 1995, Oasis was one of the biggest bands in the U.K. and was on the precipice of major success in the United States. </p>
<p id=”par-3_26″>This rise led many journalists to reference the line, “You can have it all, but how much do you want it?” in conversations with the band. </p>
<p id=”par-4_21″>“Yeah, yeah, I know, it keeps getting thrown back at me,” Noel told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/the-trouble-boys-1235088392/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Rolling Stone</a>. “Wish I’d never f***in’ written it.”</p>

<p id=”par-5_36″>He said the band did want success, but they weren’t willing to do whatever it took to achieve it. To him, being a star in the U.K. was far more important than being one in America.</p>
<p id=”par-6_111″>“[W]e want it — if it’s there for us, and we can take it, we’ll take it, and if it’s there for us, and we have to work at it a bit, then we’ll work at it,” he said. “But we’re not going to come here and sell our souls just for the sake of having a hit record in America. Financially, yeah, I want to be big in America, because that means I’ll never have to work again. But it’s not that important to me to be a big star. It’s more important for me to be big in England, because that’s where I live, that’s where I come from.”</p>

<p id=”par-7_26″>When Noel joined Oasis, he told the existing members of the band that he wanted to step into a leadership role and be the sole songwriter. </p>
<p id=”par-8_16″>“I can only do this one way: with me in complete control of it,” he said.</p>
<p id=”par-9_21″>He had control over the group, but this wasn’t a position he wanted to hold for the rest of his life.</p>
<p id=”par-10_59″>“There’s other things I want to do,” he said. “I’ll probably run out of ideas, and I wouldn’t just carry on forever, go through the motions for the next 10 years. I’d rather be special than become just another band who carried on. Time will tell. I’ll probably be sussed out in 15, 20 years, saying the same thing.”</p>
<p id=”par-11_10″>Noel <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/why-did-band-oasis-break-up.html/”>left the band</a> in 2009 after many tumultuous years.</p>

<p id=”par-12_29″>Fifteen years after Oasis disbanded, they announced <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/oasis-reunion-reminds-us-cringiest-moment.html/”>they will be reuniting</a> for a tour in 2025. The band immediately sold out shows in the U.K. and Ireland this August. </p>
