<p id=”par-2_30″>The stakes are high when <em>NCIS </em>returns for its 22nd season. In “Empty Nest,” the team searches for a missing undercover agent in the midst of an active hostage situation. </p>
<p id=”par-3_55″>In one photo from the episode, Knight (Katrina Law) – who <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/ncis-season-21-finale-knight-crossroads-photos.html/”>took a new job on the West Coast</a> at the end of season 21 – has donned full combat gear. In “Empty Nest,” she “encounters a very serious problem involving her skills as a hostage negotiator,” executive producer Stephen D. Binder told <a href=”https://www.tvinsider.com/1151149/ncis-season-22-preview-knight-leaving-palmer-relationship-exclusive/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TV Insider</a>. </p>

<p id=”par-5_32″>The dramatic premiere kicks off what’s sure to be another action-packed season of <em>NCIS. </em>A season 22 trailer (via <a href=”https://youtu.be/U_GtFMBMdAo?feature=shared” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>YouTube</a>) teases a mole inside the organization, which could put everyone at risk. </p>
<p id=”par-6_19″>“Too many secrets, dishonesty. We’ve got to stop that mole without starting a war,” Agent Parker (Gary Cole) says. </p>
<p id=”par-7_11″>Meanwhile, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/ncis-nick-torres-faces-dark-past-vows-get-himself-right.html/”>Torres (Wilmer Valderrama)</a> is asked to make an impossible choice.</p>
<p id=”par-8_17″> “If you want me to kill one of my own, I need a good reason,” he says.</p>
<p id=”par-9_22″>Binder told TV Insider that Torres is very much a lone wolf this season as he digs deep into an undercover assignment. </p>
<p id=”par-10_38″>“He goes undercover with some bad people and it doesn’t work out well,” he explained. “He gets into a lot of trouble. He’s on this road of undercover loner, not really having relationships. Where does that road lead?” </p>

<p id=”par-11_34″>“Empty Nest” will air Monday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. It will also stream live and on-demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers and on-demand the next day for Paramount+ Essential subscribers. </p>
<p id=”par-12_46″>The new episode kicks off a full night of <em>NCIS </em>on CBS. The season 22 premiere will be immediately followed by the two-hour series premiere of prequel <em>NCIS: Origins. </em>(International spinoff series <em>NCIS: Sydney</em> will return mid-season and take over <em>Blue Bloods’ </em>Friday, 8 p.m. timeslot.) </p>

Gibbs is reeling from the death of his wife and daughter, and given his fragile mental state, it’s not clear there’s a place for him on the fledgling NCIS team. Original Gibbs actor Mark Harmon narrates the new show and will make an appearance in the first episode (get a glimpse of him in the trailer above). </p>
