Meghan Markle wants to Prince Harry leave his lawsuits behind. The Duchess of Sussex, 42, reportedly “wishes” the Duke of Sussex, 39, would move on from fighting for taxpayer-funded security and pushing back against tabloids in a court of law.

A former employee of Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation opened up to <a href=”https://people.com/prince-harry-meghan-markle-reluctant-show-archie-lilibet-exclusive-8686587″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People about the ongoing legal battles. Although Meghan “supports Harry 100 percent,” she wants to put it all behind them.

“She wishes he could let go of these lawsuits, be happy, and live in the moment,” they said. “She wants him to be free of all of this. But she also knows that because of everything he’s been through and his love for [her and their children], he can’t. She wants him to live in a world where he is not burdened by this.”

Harry and Meghan live in Montecito, California, with their 5-year-old son, Prince Archie, and 3-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet. Harry lost his bid to get taxpayer-funded security back earlier in 2024, a decision he’s planning to appeal in court. Meanwhile, he—and Meghan, too—has faced off against British tabloids in court multiple times in recent years.

Harry is ‘determined’ to protect his family ‘at all costs’

The duke is “determined to protect his own family at all costs,” a source said. He’s turned to his father, King Charles III, for help as his legal battle continues. “Harry is frightened and feels the only person who can do anything about it is his father.”

In the recent ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, Harry opened up about the toll the media in Britain had on his relationships and expressed his fear for his family’s safety.

In the July 25 program, he said negative press could put Meghan, in particular, at risk. “All it takes is one lone actor,” he said, noting the “genuine concerns” as why he doesn’t bring Meghan, Archie, and Lili, back to the U.K.

How Harry’s security lawsuit plays out could restore his relationship with King Charles

Harry and his father have different views on the former’s ongoing legal battle for security (via <a href=”https://people.com/prince-harry-king-charles-why-they-are-not-speaking-exclusive-8685956″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People). Sources claimed Harry believes King Charles has the power to reinstate his security which a palace source called “wholly incorrect.”

A friend said the dialogue between the father and son on the matter has gone from frustrating to “complete silence” from the king. Regardless, Harry “doesn’t want to fight about this anymore. He wants to have a relationship with his family.” (Harry and his brother, Prince William, 42, have been estranged from each other for years.)

Some suggested Harry’s public airing of royal grievances—Spare, interviews, etc.—led to a serious lack of trust. Meanwhile, others close to Harry argued that if he’d had sufficient security, speaking publicly to help pay for it wouldn’t be necessary.

The matter of security is, as the friend claimed, what everything hinges upon. If it’s settled, then “it’s ‘swords down.’”

Nothing “would give [Harry] more happiness than being able to rekindle his bond with his father. At the end of the day,” they added. “You can’t undo bloodlines. He’s not asking his dad for a nicer house or nicer cars. He’s asking because of the reality of the situation. He is at risk.”
