Megan Fox Once Shared How She Really Feels About a ‘Jennifer’s Body’ Sequel

Megan Fox felt Jennifer’s Body was way ahead of its time, which might’ve explained the cult status the film’s enjoyed years after its release. The movie’s become so popular that demand for a sequel has skyrocketed. But how would Fox really feel about doing another Jennifer’s Body flick?

Megan Fox shared if she felt a ‘Jennifer’s Body’ sequel was doable

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-1″><img decoding=”async” src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/jennifers-body-megan-fox.webp?strip=all&quality=80″ alt=’Megan Fox speaks onstage at the “Jennifers Body” press conference.’ class=”wp-image-3785915″>
Megan Fox | George Pimentel/WireImage

The renewed interest in Jennifer’s Body years after its theater release was what made a sequel possible for the film’s writer Diablo Cody. The Oscar-winner, who was primarily known for writing Juno in 2008, dabbled in the horror genre for the first time with the Fox feature. Despite its horrible critical reception when it was first released, Cody confided that she was still excited about the idea of doing a Jennifer’s Body 2.

“I think that was always my dream, but I certainly didn’t think it would be realistic,” she once said in an interview with Nylon. “People rarely want to make sequels to films that don’t perform. Now I feel like it could be a possibility. Although I’ve been saying all along, to my knowledge, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie was not a hit in its time, and yet the TV show was super successful, so that’s the comparison I keep using as I desperately try to pitch this project around town. I’m ready to go. I just need to assemble the right team that believes in me.”

Fox also agreed that a Jennifer’s Body sequel was doable, and it wouldn’t have even needed to be a movie.

“I don’t think it’s a hard movie to make a sequel to,” she told The Washington Post back in 2021. “I mean, they should make it into a TV series. That would be cool.”

Despite the interest in a follow-up film from everyone involved, years have gone by without any news of a sequel being in development. But this recently changed when Fox’s co-star Amanda Seyfried let slip that a second film might’ve been in the works. Although she quickly clarified she didn’t know for sure.

“I think we’re making another one,” Seyfried said according to Bloody Disgusting. “I didn’t confirm it! I said, ‘I think.’ We’re working on it!”

Why Cody Diablo talked about ‘Jennifer’s Body’ to Megan Fox more than she did with Amanda Seyfried

Seeing Jennifer Body’s resurgence among audiences was especially rewarding to Fox and Cody, who were both deeply affected by the movie’s backlash. Cody once confided to ET that just simply talking about the movie was a sore topic for years.

“Well, I have to say there was an era — an era! I make it sound like it was 100 years ago — but there was a time when it was painful for me to talk about Jennifer’s Body, because you know. That movie was a commercial failure and I was savaged personally. It wasn’t just having a professional failure. It was hard and I had written about it a lot and I had actually gone through therapy because of that experience,” Cody said.

Meanwhile, Fox was concerned that the film would expose her weaknesses as a performer. But both maintained that Jennifer’s Body was a good movie even though many critics felt otherwise.

Additionally, Cody especially sympathized with Fox, who endured most of the fallout. The Paradise director revealed she and the Transformers star spoke to each other frequently about their Jennifer’s Body experience over the years. But on the other hand, Cody hadn’t kept in touch with Seyfried in the same way.

“We’ve never really had a serious conversation about what happened with Jennifer’s Body,” Cody said about Seyfried.

This was because Seyfried, who also felt the film was overlooked, wasn’t as affected by its fallout as Fox and Cody were.

“However, Megan and I [have talked about Jennifer’s Body] on several occasions, and because Amanda kind of emerged from that unscathed — obviously it was painful for her to be in a movie that was dragged to hell — but it was really Megan who took the brunt of the criticism at that time. It traumatized her for sure, and it sucked for me as well. We have talked about it, and I think we do feel vindicated now, but at the same time, it would’ve been nice if that hadn’t happened at all. That would’ve been ideal,” Cody said.
