<p id=”par-1_37″>It’s been a difficult few months for Britain’s royal family as both <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/king-charles/?swcfpc=1″>King Charles</a> and the Princess of Wales (<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/dont-be-fooled-this-is-what-kate-middleton-was-really-like-in-school.html/”>formerly known as Kate Middleton</a>) were <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/real-reason-kate-middleton-didnt-announce-cancer-sooner.html/?swcfpc=1″>diagnosed with cancer</a> after undergoing surgical procedures earlier in the year. </p>
<p id=”par-2_74″>Just before the annual Trooping the Colour on June 15 to mark the monarch’s birthday took place, Kate announced that although she “wasn’t out of the woods yet” she would be attending the event. On <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/princeandprincessofwales/p/C8NCRQKt4fA/?hl=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram</a>, she wrote: “I’m looking forward to attending the king’s birthday parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer. But equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.</p>
<p id=”par-3_19″>The king attended the event as well but there were few changes for him under his doctor’s advice. </p>
<p id=”par-4_38″>Given all it took for everything to come together this year had the king emotional, according to a professional lip reader who is revealing the comments Charles made to his wife, Queen Camilla (<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/camilla-parker-bowles-was-fired-from-her-posh-job-before-she-married-prince-charles.html/”>formerly Camilla Parker Bowles</a>). </p>

<p id=”par-5_79″>In May, it was announced that King Charles would likely be attending Trooping the Colour in a carriage instead of on horseback like he did the year before. At the time, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told <a class=”” href=”https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/king-may-skip-horseback-ride-at-trooping-the-colour-9m03tggmf” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Times</a> that “forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary” as the king continues to recover from cancer. It’s believed that doctors ultimately advised Charles to conduct the Trooping the Colour review from the Ascot Landau carriage not from a horse like he did a year prior. </p>
<p id=”par-6_49″><span style=”color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Inter, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: -0.16px; white-space-collapse: collapse; background-color: var(–wp–custom–color–white); font-weight: var(–wp–custom–font–weight–regular);”>In June 2023, the king became the first monarch since <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-british-monarch-dies-96.html/”>the late Queen Elizabeth</a> saddled up for the parade in 1986.</span> However, his horse, a black mare gifted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, struggled to adjust to the environment and a groom needed to help calm the horse. </p>
<p id=”par-7_40″>Per tradition, the monarch rides from Buckingham Palace to the Horse Guards Parade to inspect the troops. Then they ride back to the Palace for a balcony appearance and to watch the RAF flypast with other members of the royal family. </p>
<p id=”par-8_21″>While King Charles was in the carriage this year Prince William, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne all rode on horseback. </p>

<p id=”par-13_14″>In the carriage, King Charles was seen exchanging a few words with Queen Camilla.</p>
<p id=”par-14_28″><a href=”https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/lip-reader-reveals-royals-chats-33037244?_ga=2.87105758.770273243.1718567224-40125368.1707240668″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Mirror</a>‘s lip-reading expert, Nicola Hickling, revealed that she observed the king making a touching remark as they waved and traveled past the crowds lining the streets. </p>
<p id=”par-15_18″>Hickling noted that the king told the queen: “Oh dear, I don’t know why I’m feeling rather tearful.”</p>
<p id=”par-16_44″>Later, on the balcony, Hickling saw Charles debating with Camilla during the flypast about whether they could see a Hawk or a Typhoon. The monarch then turned his attention to the crowd below and exclaimed: “It’s amazing the amount of people who made it.”</p>
