Tom Parker Bowles is the son of Camilla and Andrew Parker Bowles. He is a food writer.

In an interview with <a href=”https://www.saga.co.uk/magazine/entertainment/tom-parker-bowles-on-queen-camilla-cooking?srsltid=AfmBOorFdIqSkyaNWFrdmp04QIlcDUJ2RTeBjifPnP_CCT9grVYFloQK” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Saga, Parker Bowles shared that he uses food not only for nourishment but as a medicinal tool. So does King Charles.

“The King, after what he’s been through recently, is looking again at what – and when – he eats. I’m no nutritionist, but I know that food is part of a body’s ‘medicine’. It knows when we’re having the right stuff,” Parker Bowles explained.

Parker Bowles discussed how he “goes easy” on red meat, as does his mother, Camilla. This shift in eating has also been adopted by the king since his cancer diagnosis earlier this year.

Parker Bowles’ statements were echoed by former BBC royal correspondent, Jennie Bond. She told OK! Magazine, per <a href=”https://www.gbnews.com/royal/king-charles-diet-cancer-latest-royal-news” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>GB News, “I don’t think it will be much of a sacrifice for Charles to cut out red meat.”

“[The King] has always been very conscious about his diet – very rarely eating lunch. And for many years he has deliberately avoided meat and fish on two days a week,” she added.

Tom Parker Bowles calls his stepfather a “food hero. This is not me being oily, I’m simply stating the facts. Ask him about artisan British cheeses or the number of apple varieties in the orchard at Highgrove and he knows his stuff.”

Bowles commended Charles for his forward-thinking ideas as far back as the 1970s and 80s. He said Charles was “talking about farming methods and techniques, about seasonal ingredients, going organic, and everyone thought it was a bit woo-woo. Now, it’s mainstream thinking. He was ahead of his time.”

<a href=”https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/02/dining/king-charles-coronation-food-quiche.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The New York Times reported on King Charles’ diet during the time of his coronation in May 2023. This information came just one year ahead of the king’s cancer diagnosis.

The Times reported that Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, lean into a diet heavy on organic fruit and vegetables from their gardens. Charles enjoys a vegetarian diet two days a week and goes dairy-free on another.

Reportedly Charles eats simple and seasonal meals. This encourages sustainability by reducing the need for long-distance transportation of out-of-season ingredients, and the cost for refrigeration. Instead, Charles leans heavily into honey from his hives at Highgrove, as well as fresh or dried fruits and mushrooms foraged from his estate.

King Charles revealed he was diagnosed with cancer in February 2024. He is reportedly still receiving treatments for an undisclosed type of the disease.
