That would be the exclusive—and very expensive—private island of Mustique. The Princess of Wales’ mom, Carole, reportedly loves <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/prince-william-kate-middleton-favorite-secret-vacation-spot.html/”>visiting the island</a>, one of the rare places she can be “totally at ease.” </p>

<p id=”par-2_47″>Just like the British royal family’s <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/prince-harry-thought-princess-margaret-shouldve-been-friends-we-had-so-much-in-common.html/”>Princess Margaret</a>, Mustique is somewhere Kate’s mom, Carole, can go to “truly relax,” according to the <a href=”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-14452453/Carole-Middletons-Kate-Princess-Margaret-Mustique.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Daily Mail</a>. “Carole, too, can escape the scrutiny and expectations that accompany being the mother of one of the most photographed women in the world.”</p>
<p id=”par-3_39″>Carole lives in the English countryside with Kate’s father, Michael Middleton. Known to have a close relationship, the Middleton parents are also close in geographic terms to Kate and her younger siblings, Pippa and James, who all live nearby. </p>
<p id=”par-4_53″>But when Carole wants to get away there’s no other place better than Mustique, the private island in the Grenadines. “Carole really lets her hair down and happily chats to anyone she meets on the island,” a source said. “She feels totally at ease but remains discreet—regardless of how many cocktails are consumed.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_30″>Carole’s said to be a regular at the island’s bar. “She loves a few bottles of cold white wine and leaves Michael despairing of her antics sometimes,” the insider said. </p>
<p id=”par-6_37″>She’s even been described as “queen of the island.” “She really lets loose, and she’s a hoot,” the source explained. “But these days she tends to do most of her socializing before Kate and the family arrive.” </p>
<p id=”par-7_46″>“Once they get there, Carole goes to ground and prefers to have private catered dinners at the villa.” The villa reportedly costs $46,000 a week to rent and has not one but <em>two</em> pools, private beach access, and an outdoor dining area with stunning water views. </p>

Reportedly with her were Kate, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/prince-william/”>Prince William</a>, and their <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/kate-middleton-spoil-george-charlotte-louis-2025-frightening-2024.html/”>three Wales children</a>: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. Also in attendance were Pippa, James, and their respective partners and children.</p>
<p id=”par-9_30″>Per the outlet, Kate made sure her mom had an unforgettable birthday. “There’s nowhere Carole would rather be than in Mustique for her 70th with her daughter,” a source said. </p>
<p id=”par-10_66″>Celebrating without prying eyes would’ve likely come as a relief to Carole, who told royal reporter Richard Eden in 2008 that she didn’t want to lead a public life. “‘You see, I feel very vulnerable about everything,’ she told me at the Hennessy Gold Cup, at Newbury racecourse, just a few miles from her house in Berkshire,” Eden wrote in a January 2025 <a href=”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/royals/article-14341767/RICHARD-EDEN-startling-truth-Carole-Middletons-role-Kate-Williams-romance-confided-me.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Daily Mail</a> column. </p>

<p id=”par-14_25″>During that time, however, the future queen—and future king—<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/kate-middletons-mom-carole-reportedly-driving-force-holding-wales-family-together-right-now.html/”>leaned on Carole</a> for support, who was reported in March 2024 to be “keeping the family together.” </p>
<p id=”par-15_36″>“Carole has been the driving force keeping the family together,” a source close to the Middletons told The Independent at the time. The insider also noted Carole did it all “with minimum fuss and maximum modesty.”</p>
