We did not expect that whistleblower!

The March 13 episode of CBS’s Matlock confirmed the identity of the Jacobson Moore employee who leaked crucial information in the Wellbrexa case. The fallout from that surprising reveal could have major implications for Matty’s (Kathy Bates) investigation into the drug company that manufactured the opioid that killed her daughter. But fans will need to be patient to see how it all plays out. Matlock is on hiatus for a couple of weeks. The show won’t return with new episodes until April 2025.

In Matlock’s 15th episode, “Game Face,” Matty discovered a suspicious Wellbrexa label change submitted without a supporting study. (She suspects her boss Olympia, played by Skye P. Marshall, got rid of the incriminating evidence.) The change in the label’s wording warned users that crushing the tablets would lead to rapid release and absorption, meaning it effectively functioned as a “how-to guide on how to get more high,” as Matty pointed out.

Matty used a clever email to discover the identity of the Redditor who knew about the missing documents. That the informant was someone at Jacobson Moore was no surprise. But viewers might not have been prepared to see that it was the rule-focused office administrator Mrs. Belvin (Patricia Belcher) waiting to meet Matty in the park in the episode’s closing moments.

Matlock showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman spoke with <a href=”https://ew.com/matlock-showrunner-barry-manilow-whistleblower-twist-11695210″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Entertainment Weekly about the big whistleblower bombshell. She said the impact of that reveal will reverberate throughout the rest of the season.

“That’s the journey of the next episode and pieces keep falling into place and the plot will reveal itself,” she said. “But you will find out why she said ‘One of those three people.’ And Matty will make contact with her. I’m smiling because it’s fun, the way she does it.”

“Game Face” was also a big episode for Olympia, who was getting pressure from Senior (Beau Bridges) to settle the Slamm’d case or risk not making partner. She managed to pull out a win. In the April 3 episode, “The Johnson Case,” she again gambles with her future at Jacobson Moore when she tries to impress the partnership board by taking on a complicated murder case.

Matlock airs on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Episodes also stream on Paramount+.
