<p id=”par-2_90″>Berry didn’t go into any of her previous marriages with the expectation of getting a divorce. She experienced her first big marital heartbreak with baseball superstar David Justice, who she married in 1996 before divorcing just a year later in 1997. Afterward, she was <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/why-did-halle-berry-and-eric-benet-break-up.html/”>married to singer Eric Benet</a> from 2001 to 2005. Then <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/halle-berry-olivier-martinezs-movie-failed-spectacularly-their-marriage.html/”>she was married to Olivier Martinez</a> from 2013 to 2016. At a Q&A at the 2017 City Summit and Gala in Los Angeles, Berry opened up a bit about the challenges she faced with her divorces.</p>
<p id=”par-3_27″> “I have learned to deal with three failed marriages, which has not been easy, especially when there’s children involved,” Berry once said according to <a href=”https://www.etonline.com/news/210121_halle_berry_says_she_feels_guilty_after_three_failed_marriages_i_ve_suffered_a_lot_of_pain_and_anguish”>Entertainment Tonight</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-4_17″>Berry asserted that many women felt all it took was one marriage to find their life partner.</p>
<p id=”par-5_10″>“That’s what fairytales taught me as a kid,” she said.</p>
<p id=”par-6_58″>Learning that those types of fairytale marriages didn’t always happen was a reality Berry was slowly coming to grips with.<br><br>“But we go in there with that hope, so when it falls apart it feels like a huge failure and a huge disappointment. I’ve often felt guilty and responsible. I’ve suffered a lot of pain and anguish,” she said.</p>

<p id=”par-7_36″>At one point, Berry seemed to swear off marriages altogether. In a resurfaced interview with <em>The Sun</em> (via <a href=”https://www.bet.com/article/pfdn9n/halle-berry-wishes-she-d-never-married”>BET</a>), the <em>X-Men </em>star resigned herself to the possibility she just wasn’t meant to walk down the aisle.</p>
<p id=”par-8_46″>“I wish I had known then that I was not the marrying kind. It would have saved me a lot of time, heartache and grief over the years. I made all the wrong choices when it came to love. I have been an idiot,” she said.</p>
<p id=”par-9_60″>Berry also blamed her father for her questionable decisions in marriage. The Oscar-winner has always had a very distant relationship with her dad, who divorced her mom when Berry was just four-years-old. Her father wasn’t present during Berry’s formative years. And without the guidance of a male figure, Berry believed it affected her judgment when it came to men.</p>

<p id=”par-10_49″>It appears Berry might’ve finally found her true life partner in the artist Van Hunt. The two met in 2020 and publicly announced their relationship in September of that year. They’ve been going strong ever since, so much so that Berry asserted her previous lovers <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/catwoman-halle-berry-van-hunt-never-stop-fighting-love.html/”>didn’t compare to Hunt</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-11_41″>“It was the first time I was madly in love before I had sex. That has never happened to me, ever,” she told <a href=”https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/halle-berry-interview-2024/”>Marie Claire</a> about her bond. “Talk about one of those life-changing, beautiful experiences. It was magical, just magical.”</p>
<p id=”par-12_17″>Additionally, she seemed pretty confident that Hunt might’ve been the person she was looking for all along.</p>
<p id=”par-13_32″>“It took me a minute to get it right. But the nature of the way this happened, I have a real belief that this is it. This is my person,” she said.</p>
<p id=”par-14_19″>Berry confided that she’s so in love with Hunt that she wouldn’t mind meeting him at the aisle someday.</p>

<p id=”par-16_31″>Whether she and Hunt will make it there remains to be seen. But after four years of dating with little controversy, the pair function like a married couple as is already.</p>
