<p id=”par-2_57″>Among the most <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/oscars-seven-jaw-dropping-fashion-moments-all-time.html/”>memorable moments</a> from the 97th Academy Awards (and there were multiple) was Berry’s surprise kiss with Brody before the ceremony. The actress, 58, snuck up on Brody while he walked the Oscars red carpet with Chapman outside the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif., only to plant a kiss on <em>The Brutalist</em> star’s lips. </p>
<p id=”par-3_40″>“I’m sorry, Georgina, but I gotta do it,” Berry said (via <a href=”https://nypost.com/2025/03/03/entertainment/adrien-brodys-girlfriend-georgina-chapman-reacts-to-his-halle-berry-kiss-at-oscars-2025/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>New York Post</a>). “I had to pay him back. You know I did. Twenty-one years I’ve been waiting to get him on a red carpet and slap one on.” </p>
<p id=”par-4_46″>Brody famously kissed Berry when he took the stage to accept his first Oscar win for <em>The Pianist</em> in 2003. As she presented him with the statuette, he kissed the <em>Monster’s Ball</em> star, saying: “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_66″>“That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well,” Berry told <a href=”https://variety.com/2025/awards/news/halle-berry-adrien-brody-oscars-kiss-1236325180/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Variety</a> on the Oscars red carpet. “To be a part of his moment…tonight I had to pay him back. I’ve seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet somewhere. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”</p>

<p id=”par-6_54″>While Chapman might’ve looked shocked when the <em>Never Let Go</em> star kissed Brody, she knew it was coming. Berry asked Chapman for permission to lock lips with her boyfriend of five years, saying she did it “only because Georgina said I could.” Berry, meanwhile, has been <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/catwoman-halle-berry-van-hunt-never-stop-fighting-love.html/”>dating musician Van Hunt</a> for nearly five years. </p>
<p id=”par-7_60″>Chapman, for her part, didn’t want to “deny” Brody the experience of kissing the Hollywood icon. “It was [quite the moment,] wasn’t it? I mean, how can you deny a man a kiss with Halle Berry?” she told <a href=”https://extratv.com/2025/03/02/halle-berry-on-getting-kissing-payback-on-adrien-brody-at-oscars-2025-exclusive/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Extra</a> shortly after.
