Stefani dove into Shelton’s catalog of songs after they met, and quickly considered herself a fan. She said it’s hard to pick just one favorite song, but there’s one that stands out to her.</p>

<p id=”par-3_32″>“He’s done so much music,” Stefani said. “There’s a song called ‘Mine Would Be You.’ I love that. I was like, ‘God, that song’s so good.’ But there’s so many good ones.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_31″>She said she loves it when he writes songs about her. She’s spent her career writing <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/gwen-stefani-didnt-start-writing-songs-until-heart-destroyed-broken.html/”>songs about other people</a>, and now she gets to experience the other end of it.</p>
<p id=”par-5_43″>“He’s written some amazing songs,” she said. “He wrote a song about me, [and] it was really fun to have someone write a song ‘cause I’ve written so many songs about people. But then to have one written about you is pretty exciting.”</p>

<p id=”par-11_62″>“I think he really wanted to impress me, because he doesn’t really write songs as much as he used to. And I love writing songs,” she told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://people.com/gwen-stefani-recalls-chaos-early-days-dating-blake-shelton-not-happening-8751595″ rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People</a>. “That’s everything to me. If I want to feel like I have any kind of purpose or any kind of value or anything, it’s about writing a song. That’s where I get my fulfillment.”</p>

<p id=”par-12_20″>She sent him her verse of the song, and they completed writing the song without being in the same room.</p>
<p id=”par-13_67″>“He sent it to me, and it was a half-written song. He was like, ‘Help me finish this.’ So I wrote him the verse back — the second verse on the song — and it’s just over text,” she said. “That was our first song that we ever wrote together. We were never even in the same room, but we were writing a song to each other.”</p>
<p id=”par-14_22″>They recorded the song together and have since gone on to release several songs together, including “Purple Irises” from Stefani’s latest album.</p>
