In the wake of acclaimed <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/gene-hackman-dead-at-95-did-the-famed-actor-have-children.html/”>actor Gene Hackman’s death</a> and that of his wife, his nephew says they’re refusing to speculate on what happened. They’re pushing aside all of the “negative theories” and counting on the toxicology report for answers. </p>

<p id=”par-2_43″>Hackman’s nephew, Tim Hackman, spoke to <a href=”https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/gene-hackmans-family-waiting-on-toxicology-report-wont-speculate/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Us Weekly</a> on March 3, 2025, telling the outlet he’s not speculating on what might’ve happened to the award-winning actor and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, that led to their deaths and the death of one of their dogs. </p>
<p id=”par-3_32″>Rather, Tim is hoping the family will get answers from the toxicology report. (Hackman’s survived by his three children and grandaughter.) “We’re waiting on toxicology. That will tell us everything,” he said. </p>
<p id=”par-4_34″>As for the theories surrounding their mysterious deaths, the Hackman relative wants none of it. “It’s hard to theorize,” Tim said. “There are lots of theories out there, and I don’t want to speculate.” </p>
<p id=”par-5_43″>“It’s easy to speculate negative theories,” he added. “The family wants to keep it positive for now, and when we know the truth, we will deal with it.” Nevertheless, all of the questions surrounding the state of Hackman’s home have raised many questions. </p>
<p id=”par-6_34″>“My uncle was 95 years old at an age where you think about, ‘OK, it’s time,’” he told the outlet. “But from the circumstances now, things have changed a bit. It’s a major change.”</p>
<p id=”par-7_44″>On Feb. 27, Hackman and Arakawa, 64, were found dead inside their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home, along with a dog. The pair were married in 1991 and had led a private life in Santa Fe for more than 30 years before they died. </p>

<p id=”par-8_24″>As the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation has progressed, they’ve labeled the deaths “suspicious” after a search was conducted of the couple’s home. </p>
<p id=”par-9_54″>A search warrant obtained by <a href=”https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/warrant-reveals-types-of-pills-found-after-gene-hackmans-death/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People</a> noted that detectives “found the front door of the residence unsecured and opened.” Meanwhile, “deputies observed a healthy dog running loose on the property, another healthy dog near the deceased female, [and] a deceased dog laying 10-15 feet from the deceased female in a closet of the bathroom.”</p>
<p id=”par-10_28″>Authorities have also ruled out potential carbon monoxide poisoning, which the actor’s daughter, Leslie Anne Allen, previously said “was one of the things [police] thought might have happened.”</p>

<p id=”par-11_45″>Also on Feb. 28, 2025, Mendoza shared how Hackman’s <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/pacemaker-helps-investigators-pinpoint-the-time-of-gene-hackmans-death.html/”>pacemaker helped authorities</a> get a clearer picture of when exactly the Oscar winner and his wife died. An “initial interrogation” of “Mr. Hackman’s pacemaker […] revealed that his last event was recorded on Feb. 17, 2025.” </p>
<p id=”par-12_38″>While a “more thorough investigation” is currently in the works, the sheriff said that, “According to the pathologist, I think that is a very good assumption” that when Hackman’s pacemaker last registered marked “his last day of life.”</p>
<p id=”par-13_34″>Mendoza also made it clear that Hackman and Arakawa’s death remain under “active investigation.” Additionally, that it has yet to be determined who died first as they await the results from the toxicology report. </p>
