<p id=”par-1_41″>The bodies of Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, are reportedly still unclaimed. The news comes more than a month after the acclaimed <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/actors/”>actor</a> and Arakawa were <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/pacemaker-helps-investigators-pinpoint-the-time-of-gene-hackmans-death.html/”>found dead</a> inside <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/gene-hackmans-home-everything-we-know-about-the-sprawling-santa-fe-estate.html/?swcfpc=1″>their Santa Fe home</a>, along with one of their dogs. </p>

<p id=”par-2_61″>According to a March 27, 2025, <a href=”https://www.tmz.com/2025/03/27/gene-hackman-betsy-arakawa-bodies-still-unclaimed/#continued” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”><em>TMZ</em></a> report, Hackman and Arakawa’s bodies are still unclaimed after they were discovered dead at their New Mexico home on Feb. 26, 2025. The Office of the Medical Examiner confirmed to the outlet that the bodies of the Oscar winner and Arakawa are currently on the list of unclaimed decedents, which is updated online weekly. </p>
<p id=”par-3_32″>However, officials shared that it’s not unusual for bodies to sit unclaimed for long. While the reason is unknown, there is the possibility that funeral arrangements are still being made by family. </p>
<p id=”par-4_34″>Hackman is survived by three children, a son and two daughters, whom he said he didn’t always have the best relationship with when they were young due to the demands of his acting career. </p>
<p id=”par-5_48″>The investigation into their deaths is ongoing. However, authorities have released the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/gene-hackman-cause-of-death-confirmed-authorities.html/”>cause of death</a> for both Hackman and Arakawa. He died around Feb. 17, 2025, or Feb. 18, 2025, of heart disease and advanced Alzheimer’s disease. Hackman was 95. Arakawa died on Feb. 12, 2025, from hantavirus. </p>
<p id=”par-6_19″>Hackman left this fortune, estimated to be <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/gene-hackmans-net-worth.html/”>around $80 million</a>, to Arakawa, a decision his <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/gene-hackmans-will-could-his-kids-contest-the-document.html/”>children may contest</a> legally. </p>
