<p id=”par-1_39″>Following <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/queen-elizabeth-ii-dead-british-monarch-dies-96.html/”>Queen Elizabeth II’s death</a>, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/king-charles/?swcfpc=1″>King Charles</a> implemented what he had long envisioned as a “slimmed-down monarchy.” He also decided to cut down on some of the pomp and pageantry that has long been associated with Britain’s <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/royal-family/?swcfpc=1″>royal family</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-2_37″>The king’s plan has been to modernize the monarchy but doing so has become a double-edged sword, especially with two people waiting in the wings who would love to outshine the royals any chance they get. </p>

<p id=”par-3_45″>It’s been reported that Prince William has <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/things-prince-william-hates-being-royal-dressing-up-in-robes-and-jewels.html/”>never been a fan</a> of showing off the glam and dressing up in robes and jewels. During his trip to South Africa recently, he opened up his plans to, like his father, keep scaling things back. </p>

<p id=”par-4_69″>While in Africa for the Earthshot Prize, the Prince of Wales said: “I can only describe what I’m trying to do, and that’s I’m trying to do it differently and I’m trying to do it for my generation. And to give you more an understanding around it, I’m doing it with maybe a smaller R in the royal if you like; that’s maybe a better way of saying it.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_37″>And on Nov. 13, King Charles attended the <em>Gladiator II</em> royal film performance and World premiere in London, however, he was on his own as Queen Camilla (formerly<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/camilla-parker-bowles-was-fired-from-her-posh-job-before-she-married-prince-charles.html/”> Camilla Parker Bowles</a>) was recovering from a chest infection. </p>
<p id=”par-6_34″>His oldest son and daughter-in-law weren’t by his side either to bring all the glamour and allure they did a few years earlier at the James Bond 007 <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/kate-middleton-attending-no-time-to-die-premiere-hard-meghan-markle-according-to-royal-expert.html/”><em>No Time to Die</em> film premiere</a>.</p>

<p id=”par-7_26″>Royal historian Dr. Tessa Dunlop believes Charles and William’s decision to abandon the royal glam is a mistake for them and an opportunity for others. </p>
<p id=”par-8_62″>According to Dunlop, King Charles looked “alone” on the red carpet in Leicester Square telling <a href=”https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/royals/prince-harry-meghan-markle-pose-34111447″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Mirror</a>: “There was no retro glamour, no tinsel, no tiaras. Even Camilla was missing. To compensate, I longed for the king to wear an ermine gown or pop a crown on his head. Instead, he dutifully made his way down the line of stellar names. </p>
<p id=”par-9_43″>“That fabulous <em>No Time to Die</em> Bond premiere when Camilla and Kate waltzed out in a haze of designer sequins felt like a world away. The royal machine has clearly decided that they can compensate for a depleted public presence with relentless philanthropy on ITV.”</p>

<p id=”par-11_44″>“Royalty needs to be careful. The public will tolerate a bit of charitable hectoring but only if accompanied with a large dollop of fairytale glamour,” Dunlop insisted, adding, “The royal family might think they are above such glitzy gimmicks. That would be a mistake.</p>

Instinctively glamourous with bundles of razzmatazz, the Californian couple have an effortless knack for combining showbiz gloss and public do-gooding … William beware! It would never do for the royal brand to be upstaged.”</p>
