Duggar Family Drama: Joy-Anna Forsyth Reveals if She’d Ever Return to Reality TV

The Duggar family was an essential part of TLC’s reality TV lineup for many years. In 2021, that all changed when Josh Duggar, the Duggar family’s eldest child, was arrested and later convicted of receiving and possessing child pornography. The network canceled the family’s show despite Josh having never appeared in the rebranded series. Family patriarch and matriarch Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar might have been bummed about the end of their TV careers. But some of their offspring were not. Jim Bob and Michelle’s ninth child, Joy-Anna Forsyth, recently revealed whether she’d ever appear on a reality TV show again.

Joy-Anna Forsyth isn’t on TV anymore, but she does keep up with fans on social media. In a recent <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/joy4site/?hl=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram post, Joy-Anna answered fan questions. One follower asked the former reality TV star if she has any plans to return to the industry now or in the future. Joy-Anna, who grew up on her family’s shows, 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On, had a definitive answer.

The Duggar offspring were taught to give measured responses. Still, Joy offered followers an honest opinion this time around. She said she would never, ever return to the reality TV world. The answer surprised some followers. After all, Joy seamlessly took on a more significant role in Counting On when Jill Dillard walked away. She was even heavily involved in sharing her life on YouTube and Instagram following the end of Counting On.

How old was Joy-Anna when she first appeared on TV?

While Joy-Anna carried on sharing her life following the end of Counting On, she has no interest in dedicating more years to reality TV. While the decision might shock some, it makes sense. Joy-Anna spent most of her life as a public figure. We can see how a change of pace and a little agency over her life might be nice.

So, exactly how old was Joy-Anna when she first appeared on 19 Kids and Counting? TLC first introduced the Duggar family in 2004 with a one-off special, 14 Kids and Pregnant Again. Born in 1997, Joy was just seven years old when the special aired. She appeared in three more specials with her famous family in 2006 and 2007 before the network picked the show up as a series. The first episode of the family’s series premiered in 2008. Joy-Anna was turning 11 when the premiere episode aired.

Counting On, the second iteration of the family’s reality TV series, aired its final episode in September 2020, just weeks before Joy-Anna’s 23rd birthday. All told, Joy-Anna spent 16 years of her life on reality TV in some capacity. She turned 27 in October 2024.
