<p id=”par-1_60″>At the Grammy Awards, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/kendrick-lamar/?swcfpc=1″>Kendrick Lamar</a> won five trophies for “Not Like Us,” his diss track about <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/drake/?swcfpc=1″>Drake</a>. The two rappers traded shots during a rap battle over the summer. With his Grammy wins and upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance, Lamar is the indisputable victor. Here’s how Drake’s father reacted when asked about Lamar’s big night at the awards show. </p>

<p id=”par-2_52″>At <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/kanye-west-told-bianca-censori-make-scene-dropped-coat-grammys.html/”>the 67th Grammy Awards</a>, Lamar won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance for “Not Like Us.” The song was Lamar’s fifth in a series of diss tracks about Drake. In it, he calls Drake and his friends “certified pedophiles.”</p>
<p id=”par-3_53″>“Not like us? Not like us is the energy of who I am, the type of man I represent,” Lamar said, per <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.usatoday.com/story/entertainment/music/2024/10/21/kendrick-lamar-drake-not-like-us-meaning/75777430007/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>USA Today</a>. “Now, if you identify with the man that I represent … This man has morals, he has values, he believes in something, he stands on something. He’s not pandering.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_13″>Following Lamar’s wins at the Grammys, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/drake-dad-still-disagree-relationship-3-decades-parents-divorced.html/”>Drake’s father, Dennis Graham</a>, shared his thoughts. </p>
<p id=”par-5_32″>“I don’t care about that s***,” he said in a TikTok video, per <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.newsweek.com/drakes-dad-reacts-kendrick-lamars-grammys-success-not-like-us-2024965″ rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Newsweek</a>. “It’s got nothing to do with me. All the best to him … I don’t do that bulls***.”</p>
<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-drake-dropped-his-legal-action-against-kendrick-lamar”>Drake dropped his legal action against Kendrick Lamar</h2>
<p id=”par-6_34″>In Nov. 2024, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/drakes-record-label-called-not-like-us-legal-action-offensive-absurd.html/”>Drake filed two motions</a> against UMG, the label for both him and Lamar. In it, his lawyers claimed UMG paid iHeartRadio to play the song and promoted false claims about him.</p>
<p id=”par-7_81″>“UMG … could have refused to release or distribute the song or required the offending material to be edited and/or removed,” Drake’s lawyers wrote, per <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.billboard.com/pro/drake-second-legal-action-umg-iheart-pay-for-play-defamation/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Billboard</a>. “But UMG chose to do the opposite. UMG designed, financed, and then executed a plan to turn ‘Not Like Us’ into a viral mega-hit with the intent of using the spectacle of harm to Drake and his businesses to drive consumer hysteria and, of course, massive revenues. That plan succeeded, likely beyond UMG’s wildest expectations.”</p>
<p id=”par-8_20″>In Jan. 2025, he filed a lawsuit accusing UMG of defamation. UMG responded by calling the lawsuit “illogical” and “frivolous.”</p>
<p id=”par-9_58″>“We have not and do not engage in defamation—against any individual,” UMG’s spokesperson said, per <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/drake-files-federal-lawsuit-umg-defamation-promotion-kendrick-lamars-n-rcna187790″ rel=”noreferrer noopener”>NBC News</a>. “At the same time, we will vigorously defend this litigation to protect our people and our reputation, as well as any artist who might directly or indirectly become a frivolous litigation target for having done nothing more than write a song.”</p>
