Dr. Dre Said Snoop Dog Is a ‘Walking Miracle’ for Still Being Relevant

Years after starting his music career, Snoop Dogg is still very famous, a fact that collaborator Dr. Dre finds miraculous. In 2024, Snoop described himself as a “walking miracle” in the song “Skyscrapers” off his album Missionary. Dr. Dre spoke about what it meant for Snoop to still be relevant after all these years.

In the song “Skyscrapers,” Snoop said, “F*** being lyrical, I’m a walking miracle.” He shared what he meant by this.

“[S]ometimes the lyrics get lost, especially in the industry right now,” he told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.complex.com/music/a/jillian-hardeman-webb/still-dr-dre-snoop-dogg-complex-cover” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Complex. “Lyrics aren’t that upfront. It’s more about jingles and whatnot. So we want to let it be known what it really is, and what it’s really about. If you’re really an MC, this is what matters. Your song structure, your bars, the way you deliver, your timing, your cadence, all of that s*** matters. We from the old school. We from the birth of hip-hop. So just trying to reassure people that when you listening to this, understand what we coming from.”

Dr. Dre, who produced Missionary, believed Snoop was a miracle simply for remaining relevant.

“Why do people still give a f*** about me and Snoop after 30 and 40 years?” he asked. “That’s the answer to the question. He is a walking miracle.”

He emphasized how impressive he found this feat.

“There’s been people that have been in the business long before me, but successful up until now, and people still give a f***,” he said. “Right? How the f*** does that happen? Why the f*** do people still give a f*** about us? Yeah. He’s a walking miracle.”

Dr. Dre hopes there is someone else like Snoop Dogg out there

Snoop also described artists like himself and Method Man as the “last of the GOATs.” Dr. Dre said he hopes that is not true. While he admitted he doesn’t find modern hip-hop particularly inspiring, he hopes there are young artists out there who will push the genre forward.

“Hopefully, in my opinion, we’re not the last of the goats, and there’s another f***ing Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and Eminem and Ice Cube in their f***ing bedroom or in their garage right now,” he said. “It’s like a 16-year-old kid that’s going to come out and do some s*** that’s even bigger and more spectacular than what we’ve ever done. And I feel like that’s the case right now. There’s probably some kid right now banging on his drum machine, a keyboard, that’s going to do some s*** that is going to make us go like, ‘What the f*** is that?’”

He spoke about working with the producer

Snoop and Dr. Dre reunited to make Missionary years after working together on 1993’s Doggystyle. Snoop shared why he liked collaborating with Dr. Dre.

“Dre got a great team,” he said. “Shout out to the ICU, the team behind the scenes. The writers, producers, the whole crew. They so energetic. They so dope.”
