<p id=”par-2_73″>Lucas had quite the journey in <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/wedding-bells-ringing-when-calls-the-heart-season-11-finale-photos.html/”><em>When Calls the Heart </em>Season 11</a>. After surviving an assassination attempt in the season 10 finale, he threw himself into his work as governor while trying to discover who was behind the attempt on his life. Eventually, he learned that his former flame Jeannette (Cecilia Deacon) betrayed him. His entanglement with a criminal caused him to question his judgment and led some to call for his resignation. </p>
<p id=”par-3_31″>Will things turn around for Lucas in season 12? In a conversation with <a href=”https://www.swooon.com/1155372/when-calls-the-heart-lucas-new-romance-season-12/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Swoon</a>, McNally suggested that a new face in Hope Valley will open up new possibilities for his character. </p>
<p id=”par-4_75″>“Well, there is one of the new characters that’s coming to town who represents a fairly strong opposition to Lucas, and I think within that is a spark of chemistry, and we will see where that goes,” <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/firefly-lane-chris-mcnally-when-calls-the-heart-key-role-season-2.html/”>the <em>Firefly Lane </em>actor</a> said. “I’m not sure yet, but I also don’t want to spoil anything, but I think fans will be excited to meet this new individual and get to know them and follow that journey.”</p>
<p id=”par-5_14″>A Hallmark representative shed more light on what’s in store for Lucas with <a href=”https://tvline.com/lists/star-wars-skeleton-crew-spoilers-clone-wars-pirate-hondo-ohnaka/911-lone-star-characters-join-new-spinoff/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TVLine</a>. </p>
<p id=”par-6_37″>“A lawyer who has inherited her uncle’s cattle ranch near Hope Valley butts heads with Lucas over community policy,” the rep said. “And then throughout the season, we’ll see a friendship develop — and possibly some sparks.”</p>

<p id=”par-7_70″>While Lucas is on his own, Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) has embarked on a new romance with Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry). The pair finally acted on their obvious feelings for each other at the end of season 11. Viewers can expect their relationship to deepen in season 12. Seeing his former love move on with another man is difficult for Lucas, but he’s come to terms with it, McNally said. </p>
<p id=”par-8_36″>“I think that Lucas has always maintained that Elizabeth’s happiness is paramount to him, so seeing her happy with Nathan, that gives him some solace,” he said. “He’s happy for her, but it obviously still stings.” </p>
<p id=”par-9_63″>“But I don’t think in Lucas’ mind there’s any changing this course,” McNally added. “It’s sort of the path has been set. He is coming to terms with it, and he’s at peace with it. Does he wish that it was a different path? Yes, but at the end of the day, he really cares for Elizabeth and wants her to be happy.”</p>
