During a 1996 interview posted on <a href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFfdqgSVpg0″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>her YouTube channel, Dion discussed her music video for “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” “It’s a big video,” she said. “And you know what? I don’t want to say video. To me, it’s a seven-minute movie.”

The singer explained the meaning of the music video. “The concept of this video is absolutely — I was building my life around this person, and I was of course very much in love,” she said. “Something very tragic happened. He passed away in a motorcycle accident.”

The “My Heart Will Go On” star explained the role of her lover in the music video. “His soul and his heart and his energy still live with me in this beautiful castle,” she said. “And I cannot go forward. My life is still with him, he’s still with me. Look at myself in the mirror, and he’s there.

“And I think everybody, one day or another, we lose somebody,” she added. “And it gets really hard, but we have to admit that it’s over and we have to go forward. And I’m going into this process of letting him go. He’s letting me know that he’s with me. But he just wants to let me know that he’s OK, and I will be OK.”

Interestingly, the music video was directed by Nigel Dick. Dick was behind the clips for Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time,” Oasis’ “Wonderwall,” and Cher’s “Believe.” Dick might not be a household name, but he made a significant impact on the history of popular music. He did more to establish the aesthetics of 1990s music videos than just about anyone else.

Celine Dion’s ‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now’ was part of a career peak

“It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” was a big hit. It peaked at No. 2 on the <a href=”https://www.billboard.com/artist/celine-dion/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Billboard Hot 100, lasting on the chart for 30 weeks. It’s Dion’s most popular song that didn’t reach No. 1. “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” appeared on the album Falling into You, which is one of the defining records of Dion’s career. That record topped the Billboard 200 for three of its 113 weeks on the chart. It topped the chart longer than any of Dion’s other studio albums.

Falling into You was no one-trick pony. The album produced a chart-topping single: “Because You Loved Me.” That ballad was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, lasting on the chart for 33 weeks in total. Falling into You had one more top 10 single up its sleeve: Dion’s cover of Eric Carmen’s “All by Myself.” The cover hit No. 4 and spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

“It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is a classic power ballad. It may not have become a hit without its epic music video.
