Deadline reported the cancellation news on Tuesday. FBI: Most Wanted premiered in January 2020 and is currently airing its sixth season. FBI: International debuted in September 2021 and is currently in its fourth season. Both shows are spinoffs of FBI, which premiered in 2018.

While there won’t be new seasons of either FBI: Most Wanted or FBI: International at CBS, there is a chance that producers Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment could try to take the shows to another network or streaming service. Deadline also reports that both FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International are still in production on their current seasons, and that adjustments could be made so that both shows get a satisfying series finale rather than ending on unresolved cliffhangers.

Disappointed fans vented their frustration with CBS’ decision on social media.

Fyre Festival II is really happening and tickets are on sale now

“I can’t believe it today that FBI: International and Most Wanted got canceled! Man, why?! Love those shows!” one person wrote on <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DGmEM3vyHFa/?hl=en” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram.

“Why are FBI international & FBI Most Wanted being canceled! These are 2 of my absolute favorite show, this can’t be happening! See if NBC will pick them up, please!” another commented.

A new ‘FBI’ spinoff might be in the works

While the cancellations are bad news for fans of the FBI franchise, there are a couple of bright spots. FBI has a home at CBS for the foreseeable future. Last year, it was renewed for three seasons, which should keep it on the air until 2027.

In addition, CBS is reportedly considering a new FBI spinoff. FBI: CIA would follow a strait-laced FBI and a street-smart CIA operative as they team up to prevent domestic terror attacks in NYC. The show is currently in development and could air a backdoor pilot sometime this spring, according to <a href=”https://tvline.com/lists/fbi-most-wanted-cancelled-season-7-international-season-5/fbi-cia-status-pilot/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TVLine.

The FBI cancellations come as CBS is working on extensions of several of its other popular franchises. Boston Blue, a Donnie Wahlberg-led spinoff of the recently cancelled Blue Bloods, will premiere during the 2025-26 broadcast season, as will a Fire Country spinoff, Sheriff Country. A spinoff of The Equalizer starring Bosch’s Titus Welliver is also in development. In addition, the network has ordered a pilot for Einstein, a new drama about Albert Einstein’s crime-solving great-grandson, who will be played by Criminal Minds alum Matthew Gray Gubler.
