Carrie Underwood Mocked Donald Trump’s Twitter Habits During 2017 CMA’s

After revealing she would perform at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration, a skit Carrie Underwood performed at the 2017 CMA’s has resurfaced. Alongside Brad Paisley, the country superstar once mocked Trump’s habits on the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Carrie Underwood performed a CMA skit with Brad Paisley mocking Donald Trump

Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley hosted the Country Music Awards from 2008 through 2018. Theirs was the longest-running partnership in awards show history.

Typically, the awards show shied away from political humor and commentary. However, that appeared to change after Paisley took to Twitter to share his thoughts about the CMAs reportedly banning journalists from asking artists about their thoughts on gun control and other political affiliations. That ban was ultimately lifted.

That year, Paisley and Underwood tried their hand at some <a href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vM2xHTnguBc” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>politically-infused banter, and their target was then-President Donald Trump. Underwood joked that the pair “can’t be doing any of our silly little songs because this year’s show is a ‘politics-free zone.’”

Paisley then launched into a cover of Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” The lyrics mocked Trump’s unpredictable tweets.

“Right now, he’s probably in his PJs, watching cable news, reaching for his cell phone. He’s probably asking Siri, ‘How in the hell do you spell Pocahontas?’” Paisley sang.

“In the middle of the night from the privacy of a gold-plated White House toilet seat, he writes, ‘Little Bob Corker NFL, covfefe,’” Paisley continued, as Underwood finally joined the parody.

“It’s fun to watch him for sure, until Rocket Man starts a nuclear war. Maybe next time he’ll think before he tweets,” they duetted.

In a statement reported by <a href=”https://apnews.com/article/trump-inauguration-carrie-underwood-christopher-macchio-greenwood-601d590dd45b7f9544d06843f7279784″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Associated Press, Carrie Underwood shared a statement about performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration. She will sing “America the Beautiful” right after Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh administers the Vice Presidential Oath of Office to JD Vance.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Along with Underwood, The Village People are also slated to perform. A statement from the band acknowledged some of their fans might not be happy about their appearance at the event.

“We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics,” the band said on <a href=”https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1126133308879573&set=a.241070740719172″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Facebook. “Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost. Therefore, we believe it’s now time to bring the country together with music which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will be performing at various events as part of the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump.”

Other performers at the inauguration ceremony include country singer Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio.

In light of Carrie Underwood’s performance at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration, <a href=”https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/carrie-underwood-trump-inauguration-lgbtq-community-upset-1235234726/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Rolling Stone reprinted a quote from the singer from a 2016 interview. She discussed keeping her political views private but urged her fans to vote for whatever candidate they agreed with.

Similar to her statement regarding her inauguration performance, Underwood did not lean right or left. She maintained that the country’s unity was most important, without endorsing Trump directly in her statement.

“I don’t want people to vote for somebody because I told them to,” Underwood said in 2016. “I want them to find out about things that they are passionate about and what’s important to them and look at different candidates and policies. And try to make their own decisions on that. That’s where I stand, and I go and cast my vote like everybody else.”

The inauguration of Donald Trump will take place Jan. 20, 2025.
