Bravo Is Headed Back to Texas for a New Show: Why Didn’t ‘RHOD’ Work?

When Bravo pulled the plug on The Real Housewives of Dallas back in 2021, fans largely assumed the network was absolutely done filming shows in Texas. While Bravo knows how to handle drama, the ladies of the Dallas franchise ultimately proved to the network that everything, including microaggressions and blatant racism, is bigger in Texas. Five years later, Bravo is ready to re-enter the state, this time with a show that, while following a similar premise as The Real Housewives franchise, is not a part of it. The announcement of the show, tentatively titled Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives, has fans excited, but it also has people trying to remember why RHOD failed so spectacularly. Don’t worry; we remember.

Bravo made a host of big announcements during NBCUniversal’s 2026 Upfronts presentation in New York City on May 11. Some are getting more attention than others. The most buzzed-about reveal is a new series with the working title Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives.

The network described the series as focusing on “secrets, lies, and luxury.” Bravo cameras will follow several wealthy Texas women as they navigate friendship, marriage, business, and social status in the state’s unique Hill Country for the new show. The series will be set in the town of Boerne. While the premise might seem wholesome enough, it’s still Bravo, and they are promising drama. The network promises that under the Texas charm is a seedy underbelly.

Why did ‘RHOD’ fail?

While Bravo is clearly trying to set Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives apart from the troubled The Real Housewives of Dallas, comparisons can’t be entirely sidestepped. Just looking at the premise has people remembering the long-canceled Real Housewives franchise. We can’t blame Bravo for trying to set this new show apart; the cancellation of the Dallas iteration of the show was a necessity.

‘RHOD’ Season 6 Canceled: ‘The Real Housewives of Dallas’ Stars React to News Bravo Has Pumped the Brakes on Show

While The Real Housewives of Dallas failed to garner the big viewership numbers that RHOBH and RHONJ garnered, the show did swim along for five seasons. Ultimately, Bravo pulled the plug when the series’ viewership wasn’t worth the controversy that the cast brought to the table. Season 5 of the series was especially fraught with allegations of racism, as the addition of Dr. Tiffany Moon sent the other wives spiraling. A series of racist social media posts in 2021 sealed the show’s fate, and Bravo acts like the series never happened. Perhaps Secrets, Lies, Texas Wives will fare better. We can only hope.
