<p id=”par-1_25″>Donnie Wahlberg isn’t giving up the uniform just yet. The actor will star in a <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/blue-bloods/?swcfpc=1″><em>Blue Bloods</em></a><em> </em>spinoff for CBS, the network announced on Tuesday. </p>
<p id=”par-2_47″><em>Boston Blue </em>will see Wahlberg reprise <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/donnie-wahlberg-teary-filming-final-blue-bloods-family-dinner.html/”>his role as officer Danny Reagan</a>. In the new show, he takes a job with the Boston PD, where he’s partnered with detective Lena Peters. Like Danny, Lena comes from a family with a history of serving in law enforcement. </p>
<p id=”par-3_21″>CBS has given <em>Boston Blue </em>(working title) a straight-to-series order, with the show set to premiere in the 2025-26 broadcast season. </p>

<p id=”par-4_44″>Wahlberg starred in 14 seasons of <em>Blue Bloods, </em>along with Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, and Will Estes. There’s no word yet on whether any other <em>Blue Bloods </em>cast members will appear on the new show. The <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/blue-bloods-series-finale-air-date-cbs.html/”><em>Blue Bloods </em>series finale</a> aired in December 2024. </p>
<p id=”par-5_42″>After CBS announced the end of the cop drama, Wahlberg repeatedly expressed dismay over the show’s cancellation. In an April 2024 appearance on the <em>Drew Barrymore Show, </em>he said he was “<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/blue-bloods-stars-donnie-wahlberg-bridget-moynahan-upset-show-ending.html/”>upset and sad</a>” that the network declined to renew the series. </p>
<p id=”par-6_33″>The news that a <em>Blue Bloods </em>spinoff is in the works doesn’t come as a total surprise. In June, a Paramount exec hinted the company was looking at franchise extensions for the show.</p>
