<p id=”par-1_51″>When <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/blake-shelton”>Blake Shelton</a> and <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/miranda-lambert/?swcfpc=1″>Miranda Lambert</a> met in 2005, they were both in serious <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/celebrity-relationships/?swcfpc=1″>relationships</a> with other people. Lambert was engaged and Shelton was married. Still, they felt sparks between them almost immediately. Shelton said that while he wanted to be with Lambert, his first divorce was incredibly difficult on him.</p>

<p id=”par-2_27″>Shelton and Lambert sang the song “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma” together as a duet. Shelton said they began to fall in love while they sang.</p>
<p id=”par-3_49″>“I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody,” he told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://ew.com/article/2011/07/12/miranda-lambert-vh1-behind-the-music-exclusive-video/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Entertainment Weekly</a>. “I was a married guy, you know? Standing up there and singing with somebody and going, ‘Man, this shouldn’t be happening.’ Looking back on that, I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_32″>Unfortunately, neither was in a great position to jump into a new relationship. He was married, and she had a fiance. Shelton admitted this put him in a <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/blake-shelton-panicked-realized-feelings-miranda-lambert-happening.html/”>painful and difficult place</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-5_20″>“I was married,” he said on <em><a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.cbsnews.com/news/blake-shelton-60-minutes-love-of-country/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>60 Minutes</a></em>. “That was easily the toughest thing that I’ve, you know, been through.”</p>
<p id=”par-6_25″>He said that while he loved Lambert, his divorce was still painful. In terms of difficulty, he ranked it near the loss of his brother.</p>
<p id=”par-7_19″>“I put my divorce up there with my brother’s death and that was a tough, tough call to make.”</p>

<p id=”par-8_8″>Lambert also felt an instant connection with Shelton.</p>
<p id=”par-9_21″>“He’s hilarious,” Lambert said. “We <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/blake-shelton-fell-in-love-with-miranda-lambert-on-stage-married-to-someone-else.html/”>had instant chemistry</a>, just like messing with each other, and he’s real easy to be around.”</p>
<p id=”par-10_17″>She knew she shouldn’t be feeling so much for him, but struggled to tamp down their chemistry. </p>
<p id=”par-11_57″>“I knew better, like, this is off-limits … I didn’t know what to do with it, it was, like, my first duet with some other country star, and I didn’t know if it was just initial butterflies because of that,” she said, adding, “I don’t know what it was. It was just this draw to each other.”</p>
<h2 class=”wp-block-heading” id=”h-he-spoke-about-the-difficulty-of-his-brother-s-death”>He spoke about the difficulty of his brother’s death</h2>
<p id=”par-12_16″>Shelton’s older brother, Richie, died in a car accident when the singer was 14 years old. </p>
<p id=”par-13_60″>“His bedroom was right across the hallway from mine when I was little,” Shelton said. “And he was listening to Hank Williams, Jr. or Waylon, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Bob Seeger. I just, whatever was popular really, Richie loved all music. And I would be sitting there going, ‘Man, that guy’s my hero. That’s the coolest guy. He’s my big brother.’”</p>

<p id=”par-14_16″>He said his brother’s death felt like a cold shock every time he thought about it. </p>
<p id=”par-15_62″>“I remember picking up the phone to call him a week after he was dead, to tell him something. And it was like, you think about what I, you know, I was picking up the phone to call him, to tell him something I just saw on TV or, and it was like constantly a shock to me that he was dead.”</p>
<p id=”par-16_21″>Shelton’s father told him he would have to learn to live with the loss rather than trying to get over it.</p>
<p id=”par-17_29″>“He said, ‘Look, you will never, ever get over this happening. You’re just going to have to learn to get used to it,’” he recalled. “He was absolutely right.”</p>
<p id=”par-18_17″>When Shelton received a star on the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/news/blake-shelton-said-greatest-accomplishment-marrying-gwen-stefani.html/”>Hollywood Walk of Fame</a>, he dedicated it to his brother.</p>
