‘And Just Like That…’ Season 3 Will Bring Back a Missing ‘Sex and the City’ Element

And Just Like That… season 3 is set to premiere sometime in 2025. While we don’t yet have an official release date, there has been more chatter about the upcoming season than ever before. Recently, Michael Patrick King, the reboot’s showrunner, revealed one special way season 3 will look and feel a bit more like the original Sex and the City. Carrie Bradshaw’s beloved voiceovers will return!

‘Sex and the City’ fans will feel at home with voiceovers in season 3 of ‘And Just Like That…’

While Michael Patrick King and the team behind And Just Like That… are forging ahead despite fan criticism, they are still listening to what viewers want. It seems they’ve found a way to bring a bit of the original Sex and the City charm to the reboot during season 3.

In a chat with <a href=”https://ew.com/and-just-like-that-season-3-cast-loves-voiceover-exclusive-8754709″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Entertainment Weekly, King revealed that voiceovers will return in season 3. He said that Carrie would pen a new book during the reboot’s third season. Regular voiceovers would also connect the show to the fictitious book Carrie is writing, much like voiceovers gave viewers glimpses of her sex columns in Sex and the City.

<figure class=”wp-block-image size-full” id=”emb-2″><img decoding=”async” width=”1200″ height=”592″ src=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/And-just-like-that-season-2-premiere-2.jpg?strip=all&quality=89″ alt=”The cast of ‘And Just Like That…’ season 2 pose in front of a table for promotional pictures ahead of the season premiere.” class=”wp-image-3500059″>
The cast of ‘And Just Like That…’ season 2 | Courtesy of Max

Sure, And Just Like That… used voiceovers here and there during the show’s second season. But it didn’t feel like the original series. King seems to think they’ve figured out how to reintegrate narration into the show, and we are here for it.

Why were the missing voiceovers such a big deal?

Sex and the City fans who tuned in for seasons 1 and 2 of And Just Like That… complained about many elements of the reboot. Change is hard, and missing cast members made it difficult for some viewers to find the groove of the series. While the loss of Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones was an expected pain point, the missing voiceovers were not.

Many viewers were surprised that the production team cut out the voiceovers. After all, they were an iconic element of the original series. It made sense, in theory. Carrie was no longer writing a column when fans reconnected with her, so she had nothing to voice. Still, it made the characters feel distant. The show felt colder than the original series because of it.

The return of Carrie’s beloved voiceovers might not fix all the problems that original series fans have found with the reboot. Still, it’s a good start at recapturing the magic of the original series. Season 2 was much lighter and more upbeat than the show’s premiere season. We hope the series will continue to trend in the right direction.
