<p id=”par-1_41″><a href=”https://cheatsheet.com/tag/alec-baldwin”>Alec Baldwin</a>’s involuntary manslaughter trial got underway on June 9 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The Oscar-nominated actor is facing 18 months in prison for his role in the accidental shooting death of <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/alec-baldwin-shooting-halyna-hutchins-18-inches-from-gun-killed-her-reveals-crew-member.html/”>cinematographer Halyna Hutchins</a>. Baldwin has pleaded not guilty. </p>
<p id=”par-2_49″>The high-profile case has attracted plenty of media attention, with reporters and onlookers descending on the courthouse to get a glimpse of the star. Those who want to follow along with the proceedings at home can do so via Court TV, which is providing extensive coverage of the trial. </p>

<p id=”par-3_49″>Hutchins was killed in October 2021 when she was struck by a bullet from a prop gun held by Baldwin, who was rehearsing a scene from the <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/george-clooney-calls-fatal-alec-baldwin-rust-shooting-insane-infuriating.html/”>low-budget western movie <em>Rust</em></a><em>. </em>Baldwin has said he did not intentionally pull the trigger and that the gun malfunctioned. Prosecutors dispute that. </p>
<p id=”par-4_55″>Baldwin is not the first person to face trial as a result of the tragic incident. <em>Rust</em>’s armorer, Hannah Guitierrez-Reed, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in April 2024 after a jury determined she failed to follow basic safety protocols when it came to handling firearms on set. She is currently serving 18 months in prison. </p>
