The pair met as coaches and bonded over going through divorces at the same time. Adam Levine, who was also a coach on the show, said the relationship shocked him. He didn’t see how they fit together at first, but he thought the relationship worked well.</p>

This surprised many of her fans, as she and Shelton seemed very different. Stefani acknowledged this, but said they had more in common than it may initially seem.</p>
<p id=”par-3_38″>“It’s definitely two different cultures. But there are many similarities, in things that we love and our morals,” she told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.glamour.com/story/women-of-the-year-gwen-stefani” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Glamour</a>. “But it’s really fun when you can learn about so many new things and share those differences.”</p>

<p id=”par-4_26″>Levine, who worked with Stefani and Shelton on <em>The Voice</em>, was among the people who felt surprised by the relationship. He said it worked well, though.</p>
<p id=”par-5_35″>“If you had told me that Blake Shelton would be with Gwen Stefani, I would have told you you’re out of your mind,” he told Howard Stern, per <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/adam-levine-says-blake-shelton-gwen-stefani-are-so-wrong-but-right” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>NBC</a>. “But it’s so wrong it’s right.”</p>

<p id=”par-6_47″>Stefani and Shelton began their relationship in 2015. That same year, both of them went through divorces. Their heartbreak was what brought them together. Shelton announced his <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/blake-shelton-miranda-lambert-stand-sight-events-source-says.html/”>divorce from Miranda Lambert</a> to his fellow coaches, and Stefani informed him that she was <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/gwen-stefani-said-blake-sheltons-divorce-announcement-felt-gift.html/”>going through the same thing</a>.</p>
<p id=”par-7_40″>“I won’t forget that day,” he told <a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/blake-shelton-billboard-cover-divorce-miranda-lambert-gwen-stefani-relationship-the-voice-if-im-honest-album-7453469/” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Billboard</a> in 2016. “I looked over at Gwen — who I didn’t really know — and she had these huge tears in her eyes. I thought, ‘Wow, she feels super bad for me!’”</p>
<p id=”par-8_14″>They began checking in on each other frequently. Before long, their friendship turned romantic.</p>
<p id=”par-9_72″>“It went from that, to checking in on each other once a week through email — ‘This s*** happened to me, what happened to you?’ — to maybe three times a week, then every day, to ‘Hey, here’s my phone number if you ever want to text,’” he said. “Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about, and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me.”</p>

<p id=”par-10_36″>Shelton recently stepped away from <em>The Voice</em>, but Stefani is still a judge. Levine, who left the show after its sixteenth season to spend more time with his family, will <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/adam-levines-return-the-voice-upsetting-nbc-employees-not-everyone-happy.html/”>return to the show</a> in 2025. </p>

I’m obsessed with them. I adore them in a way I never thought I could adore another person.”</p>
