The 9-1-1: Lone Star series finale will Monday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. The episode will stream the next day on Hulu.

What can fans expect from the finale? Well, 9-1-1: Lone Star is going out with a literal bang. In the closing moments of episode 11, “Impact,” an asteroid hit Austin, potentially devastating the Texas city. As Owen (Rob Lowe) – who was just about to inform the 126 team of his decision to move back to New York – put it when he received the news of the impending disaster: “So, maybe it is the end of the world.”

Someone might not make it out of ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ series finale alive, Rob Lowe says

The asteroid has the potential to cause widespread chaos and devastation in Austin. Given the scope of the disaster, there’s a chance that someone from the 126 has to make the greatest sacrifice.

“This could be the event where maybe somebody in the team doesn’t make it,” Lowe teased in an interview with <a href=”https://ew.com/911-lone-star-series-finale-preview-who-will-die-rob-lowe-interview-8781409″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Entertainment Weekly.

Even his own character isn’t 100% safe.

“Is there a world where Owen dies heroically? Does he live, does he not? And same for everybody else,” Lowe said. “This is a show where it’s totally organic on any given day that any one of these characters could have something really bad happen to them. I mean, that’s not pushed reality — it’s the reality of what first responders go through. So we were debating, ‘Do we want to push that button…and for who?’”

It’s not just cosmic disaster that’s threatening the characters in the series from creator Ryan Murphy. Tommy (Gina Torres) learned in episode 11 that her cancer was terminal and that she could be dead within days. “Impact” ended without revealing her fate. Meanwhile, an altercation with a cop led to Mateo’s (Julian Works) arrest. Now, he’s facing possible deportation.

Torres said the show’s high-drama storylines are “reflective of all the things that are happening around us.”

“I mean, there isn’t an asteroid coming towards us in real life, but there is that feeling that the world is on fire,” she told <a href=”https://tvline.com/recaps/911-lone-star-season-5-episode-11-ending-explained-tommy-dead-alive-1235402948/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>TVLine. “There’s also all of the things around immigration that are happening at the moment. And cancer is, of course, a constant. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t been touched by it in some way.”
