2 Royal Family Members Were ‘Very Unhappy’ King Charles Told Them They Had to Stay With Prince Andrew Over the Christmas Holiday at Sandringham

It’s that time of year when many people all over the world spend the holidays with family and loved ones. The royals are no different than other families as they too get together so they can all be together for Christmas.

The Windsors celebrate at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk but the main house isn’t one of the larger royal residences so some have to share nearby cottages with other relatives. And this year, one couple was not pleased when they were told to bunk up with Prince Andrew.

The disgraced Duke of York has been creating one headache after another for King Charles with his refusal to vacate his Royal Lodge home, reports of letting that house “rot,” and now his ties with an alleged Chinese spy Yang Tengbo. But someone has to share a cottage with him and the monarch’s decision of who didn’t go over well with the two royals he picked.

So which royals were told to shack up with Prince Andrew over Christmas? That would be Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh (formerly known as the Countess of Wessex).

According to <a href=”https://www.thesun.co.uk/royals/32441086/prince-edward-sophie-share-cottage-andrew-christmas/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>The Sun, Edward and his wife were left “unhappy” with the plan for them to share a cottage with Andrew on Christmas.

A source told the publication that they were “less than pleased” after hearing the news and not looking forward to Christmas “cheeky by jowl with the Yorks.”

However, luckily for the Edinburghs, Andrew decided to “send his invitation back” and will not be spending the holiday with the rest of the family amid the latest scandal with Tengbo.

It was reported that the Duke of York’s ex, Sarah Ferguson, was instrumental in getting Andrew to decline going to Sandringham and he will spend the holiday with her in Windsor instead.

Edward and his wife were previously asked to stay in servant quarters on the estate

Insiders said Edward and Sophie are “relieved” that Sarah was able to talk Andrew out of going. And now, the Edinburghs are looking forward to having nice lodging accommodations to themselves after spending last year in servant quarters. Staying in the staff quarters is something several family members do or have done from time to time. That’s because there just aren’t enough rooms for everyone.

As the <a href=”https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2528106/Royals-sleep-servants-rooms-Queen-runs-space-Sandringham.html” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Daily Mail noted: “Despite being set in 600 acres of woodland, the house is small by royal standards and quarters are said to be ‘cramped.” Therefore, some guests stay in the staffers’ quarters and other nearby cottages.

The Sandringham House only sleeps 16 to 18 people. This year, the king and queen will be hosting 45 people for the holiday so as a result, some lower-down-the-pecking-order royals will stay in the servant’s rooms.
