’1000-lb Sisters’: Tammy Slaton Exceeds Weight Loss Goal, Is One Step Closer to Skin Removal Surgery

Tammy Slaton has reached another milestone in her weight loss journey. The <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/tag/1000-lb-sisters/”>1000-lb Sisters</a> star is now at less than half of <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/1000-lb-sisters-star-tammy-slaton-celebrates-major-weight-loss-milestone.html/”>her peak weight</a> and is close to qualifying for skin removal surgery.

In a clip from the Oct. 15 episode of 1000-lb Sisters (via <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DBHLfqKtJ2A/”>Instagram</a>), Tammy and her siblings Amy Slaton, Amanda Halterman, Misty Wentworth, and Chris Combs visit her bariatric surgeon, Dr. Eric Smith. Tammy’s due for a weigh-in, which will help determine if she’s ready to get her excess skin removed.

“<a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/1000-lb-sisters-tammy-slaton-hit-rock-bottom-weighed-717-pounds-began-rehab.html/”>At my rock bottom</a>, I was weighing about 725 [pounds],” Tammy says in the scene from the TLC reality show.

Tammy eventually lost enough weight to be eligible for bariatric surgery. Following the successful procedure, she shed hundreds of pounds, and she’s kept the weight off.

At her last visit to Dr. Smith nine months ago, Tammy weighed 425 pounds. He wanted her to lose another 100 pounds. Now, it’s time for a weigh-in, and she’s “nervous” she might not have hit her goal.

Fortunately, Tammy has plenty to cheer about. When she steps on the scale, she learns she weighs just under 304 pounds. It’s an “unbelievable” result, Dr. Smith says.

In an interview, Tammy is justifiably proud of herself.

“I surpassed Dr. Smith’s goal, my goal, all the goals,” she says. “I’m ready for skin removal.”

In an interview with <a href=”https://people.com/1000-lb-sisters-tammy-slaton-surpasses-weight-loss-goal-exclusive-8727013″ target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>People</a>, Dr. Smith said that Tammy hadn’t gotten her excess skin removed yet, but that she was close to being approved for the procedure.

“Generally, we want patients to have achieved the majority of their weight loss and maintained a stable weight for 3-6 months before proceeding with skin removal,” he said. “However, in Tammy’s case, she has a significant amount of loose skin that’s affecting her mobility and contributing to other health concerns. Given this, it makes sense to consider surgery sooner rather than later, even though she will continue to lose weight in the future.”

Tammy’s sister Amy Slaton has also been on a weight-loss journey. When she last saw her weight loss surgeon, <a href=”https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/1000-lb-best-friends-everything-know-dr-charles-procter-tlc-fan-favorite-bariatric-surgeon.html/”>Dr. Charles Procter</a>, she weighed 281 pounds.

Since then, Amy has been navigating some personal turmoil, including a messy divorce from Michael Halterman, and she hasn’t stepped on a scale. Now, Amy’s a patient of Dr. Smith’s, and he wants to see where things stand with her.

In another 1000-lb Sisters Season 6 clip (via <a href=”https://www.instagram.com/p/DBHBMyEsDHB/” target=”_blank” rel=”noreferrer noopener”>Instagram</a>), a nervous Amy steps on the scale. Like Tammy, she’s pleased with what she sees. She’s down to 237 pounds — 44 pounds less than she did a year ago.

“Hell,” she says in an interview. “All you need to lose weight is two toddlers and a divorce.”
