Thomas Massie’s Microphone Snatched from Podium at GOP Dinner, “Shameful Behavior”

Thomas Massie

U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), one of the few Republican lawmakers willing to criticize President Trump and his policies — Trump called Massie a “moron” this week — reported Saturday that the Kentucky House Speaker David Osborne “snatched” his microphone from the podium at a GOP Lincoln Day dinner event in Oldham County.

As seen below, local newspaper The Courier-Journal reported on the event. Since the article is paywalled, Massie — who is running for re-election — shared screenshots of the article on social media.

Michael Faris, a Republican who’s running for Mitch McConnell’s Senate seat in Kentucky and who attended the event, replied to Massie’s post with a video that captured the moment. Faris added: “Thomas Massie Full Speech @ Oldham County LDD. Watch the full clip. Shameful behavior by the GOP and Kentucky Speaker of the House David Osborne.”

As seen at the end of the video, the microphone was snatched off the podium after Massie accused his GOP opponent, Trump-endorsed farmer Ed Gallrein, of participating in fraud.

Before the microphone was taken away, Massie said, “I never guessed that I’d be running against a candidate who participated in fraud. That’s right, Ed Gallrein took two PPE loans. Not one, didn’t pay any of it back. They didn’t know these would be public information.”

Massie added of Gallrein, “If you want a rubberstamp, you can vote for my opponent. The chain of command does not go to the Commander in Chief when you are a congressman. You work not for the Speaker of the House…”

As the mic was taken away from him, Massie could be heard telling the audience, “I work for you.”

When the influencer “Among the Wildflowers” asked Faris, “And no one stood up to say something? Not one person?” Faris replied, “I was the only man giving him a standing ovation and making sure he had support. Several of us, including Thomas, walked out directly afterward.”

Another commenter asked Faris, “Hi Mike can we get your take on why they are acting like mafia thugs? Do you think some of that money floating around from Kentucky MAGA made it to their pockets?”, Faris replied, “You can guarantee it. Kentucky truly is the last state that is standing in defense of the constitution. Look at the big tech and mass surveillance bros trying to force a win of my opponent, Nate Morris.”

Note: According to Emerson College Reporting, Rep. Andy Barr, former AG Daniel Cameron, and businessman Nate Morris are considered the three primary GOP candidates. Barr endorsed Ed Gallrein, Massie’s opponent in May’s Republican primary. President Trump has endorsed Gallrein but has not yet endorsed a candidate in the GOP senate primary.
