What’s going on?
More than an hour into The Today Show this week, Savannah Guthrie left the show.
She didn’t explain why. Neither did her co-anchor.
Fans are naturally asking if something happened — maybe even a break in her mother’s case. Here’s what we know:

On Wednesday, May 6, Savannah abruptly departed from The Today Show.
This didn’t begin right away.
Instead, about 90 minutes into the morning’s broadcast, co-anchor Craig Melvin acknowledged her absence.
“Savannah had to leave a little early,” he announced to viewers.
Craig then assured: “She’ll be right back tomorrow, though.”
Craig did not offer an actual explanation for Savannah’s departure.
No one else did, either.
It is very reasonable for people to immediately think of her family and the case of her missing mother.
While no one realistically believes that she suddenly got a call with good news about Nancy, she could have needed to spend time with other family.
She is not the only one who lost a loved one. Other family, including her own children, are grappling with this tragic case.

Despite the lack of any official explanation, reports have shed light on why Savannah had to skedaddle.
The explanation is not exciting.
But that is, we have to emphasize, a good thing. We would all like to live in less exciting times.
An insider dished to Page Six that Savannah had stepped away “for some sort of appointment, and her exit had nothing to do with her mom.”
Like we said, it’s not exciting. But it’s a relief to hear that there was not some sort of emergency.
Nancy has been missing since January 31. Most believe that she did not survive her violent kidnapping for very long.
Recently, some experts have floated the theory that there were multiple people involved in the crime — and that the culprit responsible for Nancy’s death may have been killed by his partner.
It is only natural that people thought of her family’s plight. But that doesn’t make it true.
Unfortunately, Savannah may need to continue to go to medical appointments and pay bills and all sorts of normal things in life for a long time — possibly forever — without getting answers and closure on her mother’s death.
