Newsom Insults DeSantis, “On His Knees” Carrying Out Trump’s Plan

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is being criticized by Democrats for his attempt to institute a gerrymandered congressional map in the Sunshine State. The push resembles the successful redistricting effort in Texas, led by Governor Greg Abbott, which prompted retaliatory map changes by Democrats in California and Virginia.

Unlike in Texas, where the new map was enacted by the state legislature, the California and Virginia redistricting measures were subject to votes. DeSantis’s effort follows the Texas example.

California Governor Gavin Newsom slammed DeSantis on Tuesday, insulting the Florida governor over his alleged Trump servitude and writing: “Ron DeSantis just rammed out a gerrymandered MAGA map that openly violates his own state constitution — and leaked it to Fox News before he gave it to the legislature. California let voters decide. Virginia did too. DeSantis won’t. He’s rigging the map because he knows he can’t win on a fair one. Donald Trump started this war on voters. DeSantis is on his knees carrying it out.”

Reacting to DeSantis’s redistricting effort, which he called a “DeSantis dummymander,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries dared Florida Republicans to “FAFO” and said, “Florida Republicans are going to find themselves in the same situation as Texas Republicans, who are on the run right now.”

As seen below on Fox News, DeSantis laughed at Jeffries’s response.


DeSantis said, “I’ve always wanted to do this and I think the numbers justify it.” He cited Florida’s “massive population boom” as another trigger for his efforts.
