Nancy Mace Slammed for “Illegal Baby” Description, “Disgusting”

Rep. Nancy Mace

MAGA-aligned U.S. Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC), who is running for Governor in South Carolina, is being criticized for her take on the 14th Amendment, which covers birthright citizenship in the United States.

[NOTE: President Trump has repeatedly said that he wants to end birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or those in the U.S. on temporary student or work visas. The President’s executive order on the issue is currently under consideration by the Supreme Court.]

Mace wrote: “Two illegal immigrants having a child in the United States does not make the child a citizen. It makes a third illegal. Time to close the loophole.”

Conservative political pundit Greg Nunziata, executive director of the Society for the Rule of Law and former DOJ attorney, responded to Mace’s post, writing: “Apart from the legal argument here (which is wrong): ‘it makes a third illegal’ is just a disgusting way to describe the gift of life.”

When asked by an X user, “So you’re for birthright citizenship?”, Nunziata replied: “I think it’s a weird and problematic policy, though the alternative has its own problems, but that’s what the Constitution provides and the law establishes. I also think the child of two illegal immigrants is, before anything else, a child and a gift.”

Also speaking about a newborn child as a precious gift this week, First Lady Melania Trump (who gained U.S. citizenship through a work visa) delivered a speech at the White House ahead of Mother’s Day and said: “A mother is awestruck when she welcomes her child into the world,” and “after nine months, the miracle of life creates a fascinating bond between mother and child with each breath, day by day, this bond deepens, bringing forth emotions never felt before.”

Mrs. Trump added: “Quite frankly, these are emotions understood only by women. Only a mother can carry this type of powerful connection with her child, which is also too profound for words.”
