A new The Economist/YouGov poll asked 1,602 U.S. adult citizens this past week: “Would you support or oppose abolishing ICE?” As seen below, the results of the poll show that 46% support abolishing ICE and 43% oppose abolishing ICE.
Political pundit Ryan Grim of Drop Site News amplified the poll results on social media and wrote: “Stephen Miller is going to accomplish what the left couldn’t: Abolishing ICE.”

Conservative economist and Senior Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, Jessica Riedl, replied to Grim: “U.S. politics is an unending story of one party winning, wildly overreaching on the belief that they are geniuses for whom the old rules of politics no longer apply, and then losing to the other side that in turn overreaches too. It’s a thermostatic world.”
Several MAGA supporters questioned the poll pool — one suggested, without providing evidence, “your sample is 55% women and 55% Kamala voters LOL.” Another drily dismissed the reliability of polling and this particular source, noting that The Economist/YouGov also predicted, a few days before the 2024 presidential election, that Vice President Kamala Harris was going to win the Electoral Vote (240 v 218) and 50 percent of the Popular Vote.
Note: The Economist/YouGov also asked 1,129 U.S. adult citizens if the amount of force used by the ICE agent who fatally shot U.S. citizen Renee Good in Minneapolis last week was justified. 53 percent said no. (88 percent of the Democrats polled said no, while 15 percent of Republicans said no.)
