MAGA supporter and voter registration advocate Scott Presler has been pushing Republicans in Congress to pass President Trump’s SAVE America Act, which would require American citizens to show documents like a passport or birth certificate to register to vote and a photo ID to vote.
[NOTE: Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has said there aren’t enough votes and that the implementation of voter ID requirements described in the act would be impossible to pull off before Election Day in November.]
Presler wrote on Saturday on social media: “We need ONE brave Senator to force a roll call vote in order for the Senate to vote on leaving for a 37-day paid vacation for August recess. We need ONE Senator to object to unanimous consent & ‘ask for the yeas and nays.’”
MAGA-aligned U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) replied to Presler: “Okay. On it.”
Lee wrote a separate post addressed to Thune: “@LeaderJohnThune, I hereby object to any effort to put the Senate into recess in August—at least until such time as the Senate has passed the SAVE America Act—and hereby request a roll call vote. Do not assume you have my consent. You do not.”

While Presler was impressed with Lee’s post (“Wow. This is uncharted territory. Thank you, Senator Mike Lee, for fighting for the SAVE America Act”), others were not.
More than one commenter criticized Lee for grandstanding on social media. As one replied: “Do it in the Senate Chambers. This is not official. It’s just a bunch of hot air. What a joke.”
