MAGA-aligned U.S. Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX), chair of the House Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses, questioned Daily Wire reporter Luke Rosiak during a congressional hearing on Wednesday regarding Rosiak’s investigation of alleged Medicaid abuse cases in Ohio.

Gill said: “100 percent of the Medicaid fraud companies @LukeRosiak investigated had Somali, Bhutanese, or other African origin names. Not some. Not most. 100%.”

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, replied to Gill: “That’s a high percentage!”

During the congressional hearing, Rosiak said “Refugees are using [Medicaid] to bring money back to their home countries. So Congress created this program as medical aid and there are people turning it into foreign aid.”

Gill and Rosiak’s claims have triggered a variety of comments on X, including sarcasm (“100% of the companies Luke handpicked to investigate. Wow, what a coincidence!”) and frustration (“What are you going to do about it?”).

Another commenter wrote: “Yet according to Dems, it is racist to even bring this up as an issue.”

Ohio Democratic state Sen. Nickie Antonio, who was at the hearing, said it was full of “hateful rhetoric” and added, “I was almost brought to tears just now because the rate and level of hateful rhetoric … the lack of humanity … I am shocked.”

As seen below, Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH), Ranking Member of the Oversight Committee (but not the Task Force) was not recognized by Gill, despite representing Ohio.

After the hearing Brown wrote: “If providers committed fraud, they should be prosecuted. If taxpayer dollars were stolen, they should be recovered. But Congress should not be used as a stage for political campaigns, racial scapegoating, or attacks on Medicaid beneficiaries. The people who need home- and community-based services are not the villains here.”
