U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA), who lost his primary this weekend after President Trump endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow, was one of the four Republicans who voted with Democrats to advance a resolution to force President Trump to end the war in Iran — or win authorization from Congress to continue it.
[NOTE: The other Republicans who voted for the resolution are Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine), and Rand Paul (Kentucky). The Pennsylvania Democrat John Fetterman did not vote for the resolution.]
Cassidy wrote on social media: “While I support the administration’s efforts to dismantle Iran’s nuclear program, the White House and Pentagon have left Congress in the dark on Operation Epic Fury. In Louisiana, I’ve heard from people, including President Trump’s supporters, who are concerned about this war.”
Former White House Director of Speechwriting for President George W. Bush, conservative commentator Marc Thiessen, replied to Cassidy: “This is disgraceful. So disappointed in you. Shameful way to end your senate career.”

Conservative Gregg Nunziata, who served as Chief Nominations Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee and played a key role in confirming federal judges during the George W. Bush administration, replied to Thiessen: “To the contrary, what is shameful and disgraceful is the refusal of Members of Congress to do their jobs and oversee a significant military action launched without consultation or apparent forethought.”

[NOTE: The Louisiana primary runoff election between Letlow and Louisiana State Treasurer John Fleming (who served as White House deputy chief of staff in the final months of Trump’s first term) will be held on June 27. MAGA-aligned Governor Jeff Landry also endorsed Letlow. Democratic candidates seeking Cassidy’s seat, Jamie Davis and Gary Crockett, are also facing each other in a primary runoff.]
