Congress Has 8 Full Work Days Before Midterm Elections, “We’re Intent on Squandering a Majority,” Says GOP Congressman

Steve Scalise

U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), who lost his re-election bid to Trump-endorsed Ed Gallrein in a June primary, shared the 2026 congressional calendar released by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) on social media.

Massie wrote: “Waiting for y’all to discover Republican leaders in DC have also scheduled an October recess. There are only 8 full work days and 8 half-days before the midterm elections. It looks like we’re intent on squandering a majority, until you understand Uniparty IS always the majority.”

Turning Point USA spokesman Andrew Kolvet also noted of the calendar: “These windows are precious and too easily squandered (just look at how the neocons destroyed the Bush years). We must make this one count. Replace Thune, cancel August recess, and pass the SAVE America Act.”

[NOTE: Massie has called the fight over President Trump’s SAVE America Act “fake.” He wrote earlier this month on social media, “The SAVE ACT fight is fake, always was.” He added, “It’s designed to make you furious. There is no plan to pass it. Republican politicians are playing you. It’s designed to distract you from increased debt, war, inflation, and further usurpations of your rights.”]
