U.S. Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), who is running with President Donald Trump’s endorsement to replace term-limited Republican Ron DeSantis as Governor of Florida, released a new campaign video that features his three sons (Damon, Darin, and Mason Donalds) playing basketball.
Donalds wrote: “My boys deserve the same shot at the Florida Dream I got, but Florida is pricing too many families out of their future. As Governor, I’ll fight to cut property taxes, lower insurance rates, and bring down the cost of housing so every Floridian can afford to live their dream.”

Former U.S. Representative Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D-FL) responded: “Florida has been under one-party GOP control for 27+ years. Now the leading Republican candidate for Governor is admitting that Florida is pricing families out. If the current GOP establishment created these conditions, why would voters give it more power? At what point is it no longer about party loyalty but about a new government that will bring better results?”
[NOTE: In 2024, Mucarsel-Powell won the Democratic nomination to run against incumbent Republican Senator Rick Scott (R-FL). She lost the election to the former Florida governor, who has endorsed Donalds in the current race.]
Donalds’ Democratic gubernatorial opponent, former Republican Congressman David Jolly, is amplifying a video of Donalds telling the press that he gives President Trump an “A” on the economy. When asked, “Do you think Donald Trump has delivered on his promise to lower prices?” Donalds replied, “Yeah, he actually has.”
Jolly wrote: “Yesterday Byron Donalds said Florida needs a Governor who understands the economy. Here’s his ‘understanding’ of the economy. Vote for someone who knows what you’re going through. Join our team.”
[NOTE: A recent CNN poll found “just 23% of Americans rating the economy as good with 77% rating it poorly.” A Pew Research poll revealed 64% of Americans said they were “very concerned” about the cost of housing.]
