The Montebello Library will be undergoing a remodel next month.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved an $880,000 grant to upgrade the county library branch by adding new flooring, lighting, furniture as well as other needed repairs.
The motion was authored by First District Supervisor Hilda Solis, whose district includes Montebello.
“Libraries are essential public spaces where people come to learn, connect and access the resources they need to thrive,” said Solis.
The library was built in 1966 and is one of the largest and most used libraries in the L.A. County system, serving residents of Montebello and surrounding communities, she said.
During fiscal year 2025-2026, the library recorded more than 88,000 visits and hosted more than 110 programs, while circulating more than 70,000 physical items.
“After nearly 60 years, the Montebello Library deserves an investment that reflects how important it is to this community. These upgrades will create a more welcoming and functional space for the thousands of residents who rely on this library every year,” added Solis.
Remodeling construction is expected to begin in September and be completed by November, Solis explained.
“Montebello Library has served as a vital gathering place for generations, and this investment will help ensure it remains a welcoming, modern, and vibrant space for years to come,” said Skye Patrick, director of L.A. County Library.
The Montebello Library is located at 1550 W. Beverly Blvd., Montebello. Operating hours are Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
