The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to put together a two-game winning streak as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. Before that game, the team announced some Blue Jays news regarding Deret Gonzalez and Sebastian Casanova.
Brett Bateman, Jose Soriano, and Matt Waldron made their respective debuts with the Blue Jays during Game 1. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 6:05 PM Eastern Time.
Toronto Blue Jays Swap 17-Year-Old Speedster With Struggling Bat
Prior to Game 2, the Blue Jays organization announced a player swap involving Gonzalez and Casanova.
The MiLB transactions log writes, “SS Sebastian Casanova assigned to DSL Blue Jays Red from DSL Blue Jays Blue.” This move is paired with another move: “OF Deret Gonzalez assigned to DSL Blue Jays Blue from DSL Blue Jays Red.”
Casanova is a 17-year-old shortstop. The 5-foot-9, 167-pound youngster signed with the organization in January.
Alternatively, Gonzalez is a 17-year-old outfielder. This 6-foot-5, 225-pound Venezuelan native also signed with the organization in January 2026.

Gonzalez and Casanova have had wildly different tenures with the organization.
For Gonzalez, his offensive output has been disappointing. In 18 games, he has recorded six hits, two doubles, one RBI, and one stolen base, along with an abysmal .125 batting average.
On the flip side, Casanova has shown off his impressive bat.
In 37 games, Casanova has recorded 48 hits, four doubles, one triple, 17 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases. Additionally, he has a smoking hot .390 batting average.

Game 2 of their series against the Phillies will feature a starting pitcher matchup of Max Scherzer and Aaron Nola.
The 42-year-old hurler has started eight MLB games this year. Scherzer has struck out 23 batters in 30.2 innings.
Alternatively, Nola has a 3-9 record to go along with 121 strikeouts in 120 innings. The 33-year-old starter has started 23 games in 2026.
Toronto would love to keep its winning ways on Saturday evening, but it will take a true team effort to get there.
Making the playoffs is not an impossible task, but it is one that requires them to be the best team that they can be.
