Packers Coach Crashes NBC Broadcast for Surprise Interview

The Green Bay Packers did not play in the Hall of Fame Game, but that did not stop Packers head coach Matt LaFleur from making an appearance. This was the first time that his brother, Mike LaFleur, would be the head coach of an NFL team, and even though it was the preseason, Matt called into the pre-game show to tease his brother and also wish him luck before his debut.

Mike LaFleur was expecting to be interviewed by studio analysts before the game. However, Maria Taylor announced a special guest who wanted to chime in. Of course, it was the Packers head coach.

Matt LaFleur immediately got into giving his little brother the typical teasing remarks. He joked that his brother should not be doing pre-game interviews and should be more focused on the game. To that, his brother replied, asking why LaFleur was not in a meeting with his team.

Then, Matt asked him if he had his challenge flag on him, which Mike laughingly responded, saying he did not, thanking his brother in the process. Mike did make a remark about slamming the flag on the ground in the manner that his brother does as the two spent the interview ribbing each other in the way brothers do.

But of course, they ended the conversation by sending love to each other. It was a wholesome moment, and Mike said that he was feeling emotional at the end.

Mike LaFleur Will Be a Head Coach in the NFL for the First Time

While the LaFleurs have both been in the NFL since 2014, they have only spent two years on an actual coaching staff together.

Mike was with the Cleveland Browns in 2014, under Kyle Shanahan. However, Matt entered the NFL in 2008, under Shanahan. He followed Shanahan from 2008-2013, but when Shanahan left Washington for Cleveland, the older LaFleur became the Notre Dame quarterbacks coach.

From 2015-16, the two brothers worked with Shanahan on the Atlanta Falcons. Matt was the quarterbacks coach, and Mike was an offensive assistant.

Then, in 2017, Mike continued to follow Shanahan. He joined the 49ers as their passing game coordinator. Meanwhile, Matt joined Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams as his offensive coordinator after their time together in Washington.

Matt took that and moved to the Tennessee Titans as playcaller before being the Packers head coach. Mike went from the 49ers to the New York Jets, joining Robert Saleh as his offensive coordinator. Then, he joined McVay in the Rams from 2023-25 before becoming the Cardinals head coach this year.

So, the duo has a longer track record of working with both McVay and Shanahan than they do working with each other. It is clear they still stay in touch, though, sparking a fun moment on primetime television.
