The Boston Bruins have had another relatively quiet offseason. In a way, remaining quiet is better than making questionable decisions. But as the rest of the Atlantic Division gears up for a big season, Don Sweeney can’t afford to sit on his hands.
Fortunately, there’s an interesting UFA option out there that could help add some more beef to the Bruins’ lineup. That option is Logan Stanley.
The 6’7” 230-pound blueliner could very well give the Bruins a meaner edge heading into this season. That’s something crucial when facing some of the more belligerent opponents like the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers.
Adding Stanley should help solidify the bottom four, particularly with the departure of Andrew Peeke this summer. Peeke was mostly a defensive defenseman, something that all teams need to have in their bottom four.
Stanley brings that. He delivers decent if unspectacular play. His physicality is an asset, ensuring that the opposition remains honest.
The only question mark would be the terms of a deal for Stanley. The veteran blueliner is still 28 and likely looking for a multi-year deal. And that’s just the thing. The Bruins might not be willing to commit beyond a one or two-year deal.
But there might be a way that the Bruins could bring Stanley in without breaking the bank.
Bruins Could Sign Stanley to One-Year Show-Me Deal
The Bruins could take a shot on Stanley by signing him to a one-year, show-me deal. So, something along the lines of a $4 million cap hit, which might seem a bit onerous for a bottom-pairing defenseman, could make sense.
The deal could be part of a broader promise by the organization. If Stanley fits, the two sides could work out a contract extension. If he doesn’t somehow fit in, he could be another NHL trade deadline piece to move.
Sure, the Bruins wouldn’t get much for him at the deadline. But the club could allow Stanley to get another shot much like the Winnipeg Jets did this past season by sending him to the Buffalo Sabres.

The prospect of rolling out Nikita Zadorov and Logan Stanley one after the other should be tantalizing to Bruins fans. The bruising, if not necessarily flashy play could help offset some of the apparent lack of offensive punch Boston shows.
The Bruins aren’t built to win games by outscoring opponents. The game plan should once again focus on buying David Pastrnak enough time to bust games wide open.
And that’s precisely what Stanley helps accomplish.
It’s unclear if the Bruins would be willing to meet Stanley’s contract demands. But if there’s a way to work something out, the Bruins would be remiss if they didn’t at least kick the tires on the hulking blueliner.
The Bruins need every edge they can get. And if it comes in a massive package, all the better. The Atlantic Division playoff race should be airtight. That’s why having strong reinforcements could make a massive difference in 2026-27.
